I may be jumping the gun because I haven't been smoking that long, only a few months, and there are only 2 of us, but I'm considering getting a Food Saver.  Which one do you have and do you like it?  Does it work well?

Thanks.

Sue a Foodsaver is a great investment even with two people. When I smoke something like a butt or chicken or turkey or well you get the idea I do a big smoke and vacuum seal meal sized bags of the leftovers for great quick meals. We also buy family packs of meat when they are on sale then vacuum seal them into smaller portions when we get home. Since your vacuuming out the air stuff stays good for a long time in the freezer without freezer burn. As for which model they seem to change them so fast its hard to keep up but I have 2 Foodsaver brand units now 1 at home and 1 at camp and they both work great

rather than go to all the work and cost of a Foodsaver just send any leftovers to me

I got one of the newer models that flips up for storage and it is definately the way to go! Takes up a lot less space that way..... oh and it works great.

Wildflower - did you not read the part that I'm new to this?  You may not want my left overs.  No, actually so far everything has turned out pretty good.

A foodsaver should come with the smoker. No matter how many folks your cooking for you need a food saver and an extra freezer. That way you wouldn't take up all the room in your current freezer. Now when you get hooked and you will you will need an extra freezer soon enough. You will soon be buying meat on sale and bigger packages too. That way you will save money and you'll be smoking alot more really soon too.

mark, you should be in marketing.................pure genius!

I've been debating this purchase for a couple weeks myself.  Long enough to have missed the 25% off sale at foodsaver.com! arrgg  I was looking at Sam's Club the other day and I believe the one they have in stock was right at $138 with a couple free gadgets so since I'm off work the rest of the week I'll probably pick one up there today or tomorrow.

Even for just 2 I think it would be a great thing to have.  I had one 20 or so years ago when I lived in Alaska and used it for everything from sealing up socks to keep dry while on hunting or hiking trips to the obvious sealing up fish and other foods.
