Price increases are for sure a thing!

We are lucky as have a butcher friend at local market who lets us know when he puts cuts in bargain bin. We usually get between 30-50% off in the bin. Only way we can afford beef especially.

However, we usually rely on natures grocery store. Generally have deer and elk in the freezer. Mostly alfalfa fed and just don’t get any better than fresh meat.

I doubt prices will drop anytime soon.
Saw on news this morning, screw worms infecting cattle.

Yeah I saw some NY strips in Safeway here for $28.00 a lb. Crazy! I'm fortunate that I am the only one that really eats steak in our house. I usually just end up buying a couple small Tri Tip steaks. I can usually get a couple for around $10-12 bucks and that's perfect for me or a small chuck eye steak works too. Otherwise it's chicken or pork.
I know Hawaii is expensive due to location, but $28/lb is obscene! Tri tip steaks sound delish! the disparity doesnt make sense.

$9.62/lb though? Whole briskets usually bring 3 or 4 a pound around here. $9.62/lb is insane
My Sam's has Choice briskets for $5.22 and Prime for 6.42. This a big increase from just a month or so ago.

And even the cheapest 80/20 ground beef you can buy is running $4.50~ 5.00/a pound.
For the longest time, one market had a $5 Friday special, which was 1-1/2 pound packs of 80/20 ground beef.

Two weeks ago, the $5 Friday special changed to 1 pound packs.

Well the good news I guess is that China's American beef purchases dropped from $118 and $125 million in July and August of 2024 to $8 million and $9.5 million in 2025.
I'm on the lookout for desperate farmers and packing plants to begin to lower prices in order to survive the loss of the Chineese market.
Austrialia's beef sales to China have jumped from $140 million to $226 million FWIW.

I hate to tell you this, but the farmers have no hand in it. We sell at auction and get whatever we get for the cattle we sell.

May be different for commercial farms, but for the rest of us, we get what the bidders will pay.

Don’t get me wrong I harbor no ill will towards farmers or ranchers.
But as a consumer trying to find affordable beef I’m looking on the bright side of our shared dilemma .
Anyway I sure don’t blame the farmer/ranchers.
I suspect there’s a culprit but voldemorts name must not be said aloud.

That's a " messed up " way to look at it . How 'bout we hope they find a way to survive and show support the best we can ?
If the insanity doesn't stop , we're all going to be desperate .
ARE YOU SERIOUS!?
The farmers are looking to make a living!
Its not a hard concept to understand, Unless you never were an Owner/ operator?
I can say more ?, But I will end it on that note!
YUP!?, Its insanity !
Sorry ? The damage has already been done !

A few posts ago, you stated that farmers had a hand in the beef prices and now you back off of it.

I can tell you first hand that the only time I have ever had anything to do with the price an animal brought was a beef sold privately

I am paying high costs to feed the animals I eat that I grow . Inputs are high
Processing fees keep going up as well, unless you are equipped to do your own butchering. The last one I had processed was $200.00 for my half ......... up $75.00 from the prior one even though the rail weight was less on the last one.

Yeah they do. 200 for a half is about normal here
