I just finished prepping about a 4 # chuck roast to cook tomorrow then vacuum sealing portions for future meals. With the sale price + the Senior day discount (10%) we're talking around $7 per lb. Sometimes we get sirloin (or sirloin cap ✔️) for about the same price.

I'm curious... what cut of beef is the lowest priced in your neck of the woods? I have not priced things like tongue, liver, or oxtail.

round, marketed as London Broil. a buck less than chuck.
When Bottom round is on sale, look for Rump roast.
Its got more fat marble to it., Also a nice fat cap.
Not bad if its Med Rare. If cooked too much can be tough.
Slice it thin for best results, Its very lean meat.
Slow cook @250 with liquid ( Apple juice).
I pull @ 125 t0 130 top, let it rest.
Slightly higher priced than Bottom round , but a better cut.
May not be the cheapest cut, but better than usual London broil.
Its my GO TO for RB.

I buy all mine as beef primals at GFS . So won't cross over into regular Grocery sales .
Cheapest where I buy is beef bottom round flat .
Great cut of beef with a lot of uses if you have the " vision "
$4.99 a pound . Dropped in the last 2 days , but it's an average of 15 pounds per , with some waiste .
Here's the last one I did .
From a couple years ago . Great price back then .

Great price 3 years ago , but at 5 bucks a pound I might have to take a ride tomorrow .

Stew meat, stuff with an orange sticker. Chuck is $6 this week for the first time in a while. Different cuts at $7 more often. Little brisket points did hit the same $6 as packer price which was nice

The rest of the time, round

Anything previously utility cut they now call "steak" is expensive. Marketing BS has turned sliced trim into a steak?
Shank is the lowest price I've found. We love it for soups and pot roasts.
I so miss the holiday specials of $5/# rib roast.
Getting sub primal is your better choice as @chopsaw has posted many many times.

Gotta say the $39.99/lb I just paid a high end butcher for outside skirt steak was totally not worth it. I will stick with $13/lb inside skirt and add fresh pineapple to the marinade.

I want to see that post. Does chuck roll go by any other names?
You get some great variety from a chuck roll . No other name for it .
IMPS/NAMP number is 116A . Should have that number on the tag so you know what you're buying .
You get 2 maybe 3 chuck eye steaks off the end of the eye / roll . Fantastic steak . That end of the chuck roll sits next to the ribeye .

In my neck of the woods there is no such thing as a cheap cut of meat.

It's better termed "least expensive" cut of meat.

I believe the industry has now changed to recognise a floor price for any cut, so there are no throw away cuts at all. Every cut must make a certain profit over the carcass and processing price.

Unfortunately this means no cheap cuts and people like me search the Yellow Tag bins to find a realistically priced cut.

I'm not poor, just picky.
