Having involuntarily rejoined the 200 Club over the holidays I now need to take off a quick and easy ten pounds. What to eat you may ask? Vortex bird legs and Cesar salad, big on flavor and low on calories. My new favorite method is going with Jeff's Original Rub, a half dozen legs at a time.

I've been setting up the Vortex with a chimney of coals and a block of hickory right over the Vortex on my Weber kettle, like this only with legs.

Gets some pretty good smoke rolling, I let them go for 35 minutes

The legs come off juicy as could be and the skin is crispy and delicious. No sauce toss while cooking, it's there on the side if needed. Spinach works too!

It's a diet I can get used to, I'm loving this stuff!

With going for a two mile walk and this for dinner I lost three pounds in two days! Decided to celebrate with a 3/4 pound bacon cheeseburger loaded with caramelized onions, didn't gain an ounce

So if you're looking to lose a bit of weight the easy way, without suffering too much, this just might be the way to go. If only I could stomach light beer, but no. Thanks for lookin' in! RAY

Looks good Ray! We like adding baby spinach leaves with lettuce to our salads. I had joined the 200 club awhile back but I think it lies ! :emoji_laughing:

Looks good Ray. Excellent plating too. Glad you're watching it. I'm way into the 200 club, closer to the 300 club unfortunately, but working on it. Have lost 53 lbs over the last 5 years, another 45 to go, but it's slow. Thanks for sharing.

Looks delicious ray! Heck of a "diet" lol

Thanks Jake, it's all a part of growing old! Beats the hell out of soup and lettuce. RAY

Thanks Ryan! I could see it coming with the holiday fudge and CC cookies, I'm sure alcohol had nothing to do with it. Thanks for the Like Ryan, it is much appreciated! RAY

Thanks Mike! When I was 50 I weighed in at 246, ate nothing but steak and veggies for 15 months, got down to 185 and try to stay at 190 or a little under. Thank you for the Like, I do appreciate it! RAY

Holy Cow Ray what are you a flagpole? 200lbs. I haven't weighed that since high school. Just joshing ya. The chicken looks great!!!

Point for sure
Chris

Ray those legs look amazing!! Plating is spot on. The burger looks fantastic too. I think 3/4 lbs is a perfect sized burger.

Ray that’s some nice looking chicken and an awesome diet! I like how you can add the giant burger to balance things out.

I’m well past the 200 club, maybe I’ll get close one of these days.

Ray, that's some fine looking yard bird right there!! Beautiful color on those legs and the 2nd plated shot of the chicken is gorgeous!! Carousel worthy IMHO. It just doesn't get much prettier than that buddy. You did kinda shoot yourself in the foot with that burger though...but it looks fantastic!!

Best looking Diet Food I've seen. Now I would think a Dietician would say Skinless Breast, NO Sauce and Lettuce with a touch of EVOO and Lemon and some Seltzer to wash it down, would be the ACTUAL Diet version of that meal...But what do those College Nerds know?!?!...JJ

That looks awesome Ray!
I usually do wings with the vortex, but after seeing this I think I will do legs the next time, as I do love dark meat!

When it comes to yard bird, the kettle is the way to cook. Legs look luscious!

I agree 100%! Thanks for the Like Moto, much appreciated! RAY

My Kinda diet......Esp that burger....with a side of those legs! Jim

Thanks Jim, the burger is to just hold the line and be a reward for all my sacrifice! Thank you for the Like, I do appreciate it. RAY

Thanks Chris! The idea is to keep being able to fit into my jeans. Of course I haven't worn anything but shorts and sweats for over nine months, and I ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Thank you for the Like Chris, it is much appreciated. RAY

Thanks Jeff! The plating was inspired by what I've seen on most of your posts, you are a master at it. 3/4lb burger goes just right with the 4 slices of bacon required and the homemade bun. Thanks for the Like Jeff, it is much appreciated. RAY

Thanks Joe! Just about everyone's time comes around the age of 50, when you go see the doc for your annual check-up you want to be sure to have some bad habits that need quitting. RAY

Thank you Robert! I'm pretty darned happy with yardbird since the advent of the Vortex, provides a flavor I never got before, I like it. Burgers? I absolutely love burgers and could just about live on them if I had to. Thanks for the Like Robert, much appreciated! RAY

Some good lookin grub . If you're gonna pack plywood in a wind storm you need to be . Got on the scale the other day , I'm up to 250 . Damn hops and barley soup . I show pretty good at 210 .

Thanks Rich! When I was 21 the first job after I turned out was sub-flooring custom homes with 1&1/8" plywood, could toss them around like a deck of cards. When I was 50 there were two apprentices to carry my tools and fetch materials to make sure I didn't hurt myself. Now getting a sheet of half inch CDX onto a pair of sawhorses is a wrestling match, and I don't always win. Thanks for the Like Rich, it is much appreciated! RAY

I usually only eat 2 of them in a meal, but I'm still trying to get to my fighting weight.
Nice Job!!

Thanks Chef, that's the exact reason I'm my own dietician! RAY

Great work on that kettle! food looks awesome!

Thanks Yankee, the Vortex and SnS have made my Weber the most valuable tool in the box! Thank you for the Like, I do appreciate it. RAY

Thanks Al! I like the wing also, but legs give me a little more bang for the buck. I started out doing them for 30 minutes then giving the legs a toss in sauce, then back on for another five minutes. Now I'm liking going with just the straight rub for 35, the skin is more crispy and delicious. Thanks for the Like Al, it is much appreciated! RAY

Thank you John! I find that with nothing else on the plate but some salad a half dozen fills the bill and everything gets cleaned off. Thanks for the Like Bear, much appreciated! RAY
