A Holler in North Iowa
This project has been gettin put off to long. So today I got back to work on it.

Got the wheels mounted, the control box mounted an the heatin element in.

The heatin element. It's fer a dryer an should provide plenty a heat.

This is gonna be used primarily fer sausage, bacon an hams. Should really help make a quality sausage.

Next, I'm gonna get it wired up. Got a start on the smoke generator already. Hope ta get it finished up next weekend!

Looking good so far Trav. Started on my fridge conversion last week. Will be using it for sausage. Keep us updated on the progress.

I gonna be watching you here tip cause I want to make a low temp smoker out of my GOSM and use some of the same stuff that you are using to. So keep up the Qview and I'll be checking back in too.

Hey Trav, that's a swell lookin' old time fridge you got- great job so far on your project. Hope it turns out just like you want it!

I know I'm probably jumping the gun, but I'm anxious to know what you are doing for a smoke generator. Mine has been a work in progress. I just switched from a Little Chief with a hot plate to a larger metal cabinet, it used to be a computer printer cabinet. It is allowing the heat from the hotplate to dissipate a bit. The Little Chief got too hot.

Is it from a 220v or 110v dryer? You will have a problem with it if it is from a 220v and you try running it on 110v.

Element will run on 220V, controls will run on 110V, shops loaded with 220 outlets an a long cord will let me use it outside in the summer if I wanna.

Nice old frig ya got there tip. Whens the first smoke? I'll be looking forward to the Q-view.

I hope ta get it all wired up next weekend. Then I'll give er a nice test burn. So, the weekend after that I'll have ta make up some sausgage to put in there!

Got a alto-sham low temp control an a regular oven control, that way I can smoke at low temps er high temps. They will run a contactor which will control the heatin element.

If that element won't heat it nothing will. Very nice build so far.

I can see it all now , the guests are just getting settled in drinks being snapped open, Wife busy getting snacks on the table. Trav says, jest a sec, I'll get some oh thet smoked possum sausage I did. Yer gonna luv it.

He ambles over, opens the fridge, smoke comes a poring out of the thing. Uncle Joe leaps to his feet Yellng at the top of his lungs. Stand back, stand back, everybody get the hell outta the way. He grabs mega Keg of beer, shoves Trav aside all the while shaking the Keg violently up and down and spraying iced cold beer all over the Wife, snacks and other guests. Finally He manages to aim the dern thing at the source of the smoke spraying its contents onto that nice new element which promptly gives up its life with a brilliant flash of white light. When the Keg finally coughs up the last gasp of foam into the smoker He proudly turns to Travcoman45 then says , I put out yer damm fire where's the damm grub??

Yep that there thing is gonna work out fine, jest fine.

Looks good, and I hate to say anything negative but.... I would be a little concerned about that exposed 220v element. Are you going to have a cover over it? Sooner or later a sausage casing or tie string will break and a sausage will fall on it, could cause a fire or at the least burn up your element and ruin your smoke. Not to mention the shock hazard. Just a thought.

Dave

Like I said, it's progess it ain't done, there will be a shield over the element an a rack an drip tray above that. I'm just postin some pics a where I'm at now. When it's all done, I'll post up the final pics an if theres any interest at all, I'd be willin ta do a step by step. Or I might put the step by step on my blog site.
