Saw one of these yesterday and thought it would be pretty cool to cook in my fireplace over the winter months. Would be great for camping too. The price seems a tad steep but the design is simple so I think I'll just make me one. Anyone else have one or have any experience using one?

Placebo,

I've moved your post to "General Discussions" as it will get better exposure there. Most folks don't check out the "Messages for All Guests and Members" section

They have grills like that at a lot of campgrounds. They work fine, but I'm not sure if I would use it in an indoor fireplace if you are cooking anything that drips - like meats.

Can you elaborate on that please? At first I was thinking the same thing but after more thought I figured any drippings would just hit the hot coals and evaporate back up into the meat. I think for grilling over wood coals this would be fine but I can see where trying to do low and slow/indirect heat could make for a messy fireplace. Thanks for the input!

Most of it will evaporate, but you will eventually end up with a burnt on layer of crud. Also I would worry about flare ups if there is fat in the drippings. I'm not saying the product wont work, I just wouldn't use it to do serious cooking myself in my living room. If you had a backyard fire pit or something this would work great. Personally I would invest in a covered porch or awning so I could use my grill and smoker year round (depending on where you live of course
