The BEST Thread...Not THE best thread, just a thread about "THE BEST"

Maybe it's just me, but that word, depending on how it's used, sometimes bugs the beep out of me.


Why must people (not all) constantly insist upon their way of doing something or a product they like being the "BEST"?



The way I see it, it's ALL a matter of opinion. 


I think it would be BEST, if people weren't so insistent with their opinions.


It's very possible there would be less friction and more participation.


Nothing wrong with being self confident, but...





Am i wrong in thinking this way?

You know when it comes to food the word best is thrown around like crazy but there are so many different tastes and versions or interpretations of food items how can one be the best? What my family & friends like may be disgusting to someone else but with that being said I do think my sausage gravy is the "best", but that is just my opinion... :)

Everybody's taste is different.

What I think is best, you may think is the worst.

Your right the word "Best" does come up often in the postings.

But I don't think anybody really believes that there isn't a better version of their recipe somewhere.

For me, I'm always tinkering with my recipes to make them better.

So when I say this is the best yet, I mean this is the best I have made to date. Not the best in the world.

If it's the best why are we always trying to make it better.

Everyone's got their opinion, but that's all it is, an opinion.

State your opinion, give your reasons, that's all there is to it.

I think it would be best  if nobody ever took my word on

what's best  for anyone but me.

None of us were born as the BBQ guru or with a chef's knife in hand.

Member's talents, knowledge level here, as in life, covers the full spectrum.

I believe all of us are in a continuous learning mode, are striving to produce the best BBQ we can for our family and friends.

What better place to learn about smoking, cooking, baking, curing, constructing, etc., than SMF.

Food safety should always be first priority.

Whether it's pork, beef, chicken, etc., there are multiple established techniques that can be applied to produce a great final product.

IMO, not any single one is the best technique for everyone and no one should consistently "suggest" that their way of doing things is the best.

I believe this refrains members from comment unless he or she want's to insist that their own technique is the best. Then...

Anyway, that's kind of what I think but, could be wrong. I was wrong once before.

I don't recall my posting any of my recipes and saying, " This is the Best..." I leave that up to You Guys to say mine is best!

BTW...McDonald's has the BEST fast food Fries!!!!...

Well I guess it sure as hell is better than somebody telling me this is their worst. I know what you mean though....SMFs needs to expand their adjectives for the deliciousness that is created.

I just don't know enough superlatives to describe good

barbecue.

You know the times I'm talking about, everything cooked 

exactly the same but this time it comes out spectacularly.

Maybe it's the piece of meat or just your state of mind,

but dang that's good stuff today.

you mean mines not the _____ dang man and I tried so hard. Like said some days are better then others and that's the way I see it there is no bad BBQ or smoked meat some is just better then other. I will admit mine does not always turn as planned but we eat it anyway and hope for the better the next time. Whats it called trial and error!!!

I like my Bell Fab smoker.
I like Royal Oak lump.
I like good well-seasoned oak splits.
I like good pork BBQ.
I like a good spatchcocked chicken.
I like really good ribs.
I like folks who tolerate me and my opinions.
I like my soulmate wife.
I like my sweet little shis tzu puppy.

I like so many wonderful things in my life, and as far as I'm concerned, I can't think of any way to make it better than to see a new post that says, "newbie, just trying to learn more about BBQ and need some guidance from you great folks".

Thank you all very much for making all of the above things work for me. The last year and a half has been a wonderful experience for me, and I owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who has helped me and shared good conversation on the site.

Lots of people like FOB ribs. The ones that like a little tug shouldn't be "suggesting" that somehow, those folks don't know what they're doing or they're eating mush, etc.

The funny thing is, I've never seen people who enjoy FOB ribs communicate their preference to others in that fashion. I wonder why that is?

How many different ways can a chicken be smoked/cooked? Many. So why is one's preference/style/technique the best, "suggesting" to others that somehow their way is inadequate.

Many folks like smoking low-n-slow, lately it seems like that too is somehow the wrong way of doing things.

I could go on, but at this point I'm done.

I say do as you wish, but play nice with others.

 but, I have noticed some of the egos are soaring high.

Joe You did not make a mistake...You made an Observation and felt passionately enough about it to share your feelings. As far as BEST goes there are many passionate folks here and some are more assertive with there conviction. After 15 years feeding a horizontal offset, I got a MES40. After the first run I knew that it was the BEST smoker I ever used and promoted it here. The Smokin-it and Bradley guys would disagree. Not to mention there would always be the post or two that a WSM or UDS is just as Set and Forget as the MES40. Bottom line...Do your Best, with the Best equipment you can afford and if your loved one's smile and give you a big Sloppy BBQ Sauce Kiss...You are the BEST!!!...JJ
