This project has been in the planning stage for a long time…..to long but finally it is happening! The motivation……The X-Fire Grill wants create flame crafted magic again!
Step one: get the back yard fence in…….was calling around to some fence supply places and a local outfit gave me an install price I couldn’t even buy the materials for it….bam easy button 7 days later check check….
Step two: add basement window well extensions, ie the previous ones were flush ie didn’t meet code and always made me nervous not having a positive grade away from the house….raised them 13 inches….
Step Three: create a bigger flower bed and move the lawn sprinklers away from the house…..and creating a side walk pad to Smokehouse Way (SHW)….
Step Four: Clear the lawn and adjust the law sprinklers for SHW….ps used the 18 inch wide tiller to break up the grass for moving……
Step Five: make a place for all the excavated soil….no waist in this project…. Made four 7’x9’x2’ raised garden boxes each with hunter multi stream pop up sprinkler heads…. These have 4x4 post corners & 2x4 mid wall supports set 12” into the ground with 2x8 ledges to sit to weed and harvest….the wife “colored” them!
Step Six: move the soil and grade the pad for SHW….just for the record it was about 4.5 cubic yards worth….
Step Seven: build the SHW foundations….. this is exciting…. 8”x48” post holes with rebar and a welded wire circular cage…forms set for pouring….
Next the mud work…the Mrs & Boy were all hands on deck, the Mrs ran the mixer (she used 4 cup pirex to make each batch perfect) the boy worked the shovel and rod to set the mud while I ran the mud…..25 bags later I did some finish work and bingo!
Step Eight: Frame….got the posts set and roof cross rafters up….as an FYI this is built like a side shed is a post frame barn….keeps if elegance and sleek….
Need one more day of framing and it will be time (Octobers tasks) to put some base down, compact, the form up and pour the pad and walk……more come……as a tease…SHW will have steel trust headers all around for the lateral and vertical load support that I will fab up in the shop…..
