This project has been in the planning stage for a long time…..to long but finally it is happening! The motivation……The X-Fire Grill wants create flame crafted magic again!

Step one: get the back yard fence in…….was calling around to some fence supply places and a local outfit gave me an install price I couldn’t even buy the materials for it….bam easy button 7 days later check check….
IMG_3836.jpeg

Step two: add basement window well extensions, ie the previous ones were flush ie didn’t meet code and always made me nervous not having a positive grade away from the house….raised them 13 inches….
IMG_3853.jpeg

Step Three: create a bigger flower bed and move the lawn sprinklers away from the house…..and creating a side walk pad to Smokehouse Way (SHW)….
IMG_1908.jpeg

Step Four: Clear the lawn and adjust the law sprinklers for SHW….ps used the 18 inch wide tiller to break up the grass for moving……
IMG_1912.jpeg

Step Five: make a place for all the excavated soil….no waist in this project…. Made four 7’x9’x2’ raised garden boxes each with hunter multi stream pop up sprinkler heads…. These have 4x4 post corners & 2x4 mid wall supports set 12” into the ground with 2x8 ledges to sit to weed and harvest….the wife “colored” them!
IMG_1913.jpeg

Step Six: move the soil and grade the pad for SHW….just for the record it was about 4.5 cubic yards worth….
IMG_1919.jpeg

IMG_4134.jpeg

Step Seven: build the SHW foundations….. this is exciting…. 8”x48” post holes with rebar and a welded wire circular cage…forms set for pouring….
IMG_2319.jpeg

Next the mud work…the Mrs & Boy were all hands on deck, the Mrs ran the mixer (she used 4 cup pirex to make each batch perfect) the boy worked the shovel and rod to set the mud while I ran the mud…..25 bags later I did some finish work and bingo!
IMG_2325.jpeg

Step Eight: Frame….got the posts set and roof cross rafters up….as an FYI this is built like a side shed is a post frame barn….keeps if elegance and sleek….
IMG_2360.jpeg

Need one more day of framing and it will be time (Octobers tasks) to put some base down, compact, the form up and pour the pad and walk……more come……as a tease…SHW will have steel trust headers all around for the lateral and vertical load support that I will fab up in the shop…..

BEAUTIFUL SETUP, YOU KIDS WILL ENJOY THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOR FOR YEARS TO COME! RAY

Nice!

Dang, you’ve been busy! Good work!
Thanks and I will agree it’s been a little bit of a thing this summer…. Not in the pics is I added two more sprinkler zones so trenching and running all the new trunk lines and we made a new flower bed along the side of the house and increased the front beds as well…I redid the whole sprinkler manifold setup from the previous owner as well…..he had 6 back to back 90s (???) inducing major flow losses….
Going to be a sweet spot for smoke’n.
Thanks SE! I’m looking forward to NOT having them under the house porch…..it something does happen loosing a shed is way better than the house!

Thanks RAY, I am so looking forward to it! I have really missed the open fire cooking of the X-Fire Grill…..it’s therapy to me! Not to mention getting that space back in the shop!
Thanks Timbo!

Man that's gonna look great. You put some work in. I'm feeling slack I barely cut the grass this year

Sprinkler system with pop-up heads? If so, you then have a RPZ backflow preventer installed correct? Only reason I am asking is because I am certified in testing backflow devices for the city I work for.

That's gonna be relaxation for sure and great new home for the arsenal!

Keith
Thanks Keith! I’m considering building a PID controlled electric smoker/holding oven to do long term brisket….ie once it reached temp the smoker temp drop to hold temp….it will also free up the how oven for holding…it’s a idea anyway….

Ha, yes I have/had a set up but I pulled it to keep an air gap…..Ie we are lucky to have pressurized irrigation water so no need to have a city connection point any more….I did keep the capped connection point just in case I ever need to add it back in….my city requires a test every year if you have one….they don’t really want people having a city connection any more
Lot of hard work but results look wonderful ! Great work 🙂
Many thanks winter….got a bit more “heavy lifting” to go….ie about 150 bags yet left to pour….
Looking good and great workmanship. Keep the pics coming!
Thanks bill and will do, October is mud month then the finish work on the shed in early November just before the snow flys

What a great project civil! Looks like you got a good plan and can't wait to see how it ends up!

Man the dump trailer was the easy part, the next part was WORK!

10k of crushed in place….. along with a start on the rap……

Next up is running the plate compactor over all this then form work and mud…..

PS Mrs Civil told me she always going to work outside today….so I come out at the end of the day and she had moved 6k of this today….she doesn’t like mud….so she was motivated!
