Even in Florida it's getting to be soup weather.

I smoked a ham a couple of days ago mainly to get the bone for bean soup.

Here's the ham.

There's a lot of trimming to do.

All trimmed up.

I injected it with Tony C's Praline Honey Ham marinade & coated the outside with brown sugar.

Into the Lang, running around 225.

I basted it with the pan juice every hour, and it only took about 4 hours to get to 140.

Look at the pullback on the bone.

I rested it under foil for 1/2 hour & the IT went to 145.

Time to slice it up.

It's nice & juicy & tender.

Good smoke flavor & the Tony C's gives it some sweetness.

Served it up with some German potato salad.

Had to have a sammie for lunch the next day!

Now on the the soup. Soaked the beans overnight.

Got the ham bone ready.

We just put what ever we could find in the fridge in the soup.

No real recipe to follow. Everything into the crock pot.

About an hour before it was done we used an immersion blender & pureed some of it.

Also added a couple of pounds of cubed up ham.

And there you have it. Soup for dinner!

Thanks for looking!

Nice. I can smell it from here. I could use a bowl...we are in negative double digits (Celsius) territory.

Lots of good sandwich material and the soup will warm the bones!

Looks good from here Al!

Looks great, I have a big one in the freezer for Christmas.

The plate, sammie and soup look delicious.

I can't wait to get my ham going.

Thanks Adam!

The warm weather is coming back here.

High tomorrow, mid 80's.

I know I should be loving it, but we haven't had any winter yet.

I look forward to highs in the low 70's & lows in the high 50's.

We just haven't had much of that yet.

Can't go wrong with ham and bean soup! I made a big pot on Monday for our lunches for the week.

We had that with a nice loaf of French bread.

I could use a couple more bowls with this ridiculously cold weather we're having.

Wow! This might be the best ham I've ever done! Love it! Thanks again my friend!!
Thanks a lot fellas!

Glad your ham turned out so well Jay!

It sure looks good!

Nice job Al ham and bean soup is one of my favorites. Just last week I found a ham bone in the back of the freezer. My heart raced because I knew instantly what I was going to make!

I took the bone with all the meat on it and threw it in about 8 cups of chicken stock and simmered it for about 3 hours. Tossed in carrots, celery, onions, garlic, cabbage, bay leaves  and let it cook for several more hours. until things softened up.

I bought a bag of the 15 bean mix from the store and soaked them the night before and tossed them in. CBP a little salt, mustard powder for a little bite and some savory rub.

I don't know the names of all the different beans in that 15 bean mix but it was perfect for the soup!

It's been well below zero here the last 4 or 5 days so the soup was the perfect elixir! Just finished the last bowl yesterday!

Next up is chili, beef stew or goulash. Have to poll the family

Thanks guys!

I can't believe you guys are getting such cold weather up there.

We can't get more than a cool night (high 50's) & then we have only had a couple of those.

The temp here right now is 86 & I'm sweating with no shirt on.

I am trying to run the smoker at 225, but it is hard to do when it's this hot.

Oh well, you guys stay warm & I'll try to stay cool!

Al

Tasty looking soup! I was in Florida for Christmas one year it snowed but didn't last long.
