Back when this covid crap first started, I remember seeing this woman in Meijer just raking canned goods off the shelf and into her cart with her arm. I felt like slapping her upside the head. I'm all for being prepared and all that, but there is a difference in being prepared and being a damn pig.
The key is to prep slowly over time. Buy when its on sell and get a few more cans than you need.

no turkey breast here at all. the whole turkey section had about 6... this was also on the local news here in UT. they told everyone to go now and get one while you can and that smaller ones would be in short supply. Im making a chicken this year to stay out of the madness. SIL is frying a turkey for the fam the week before the actual holiday, so we should get our fix on that.

It's just the two of us
I got ya beat this year . I'll be dining by myself . Usually go to my Sisters house . Skipped last year like most people . That being the 50 / 50 shot at food poisoning that it is , kids decided they where going to the wife's side this year . If I had to go to one or the other , I'd risk food poisoning . Since I don't I'll be staying home .
Can't wait .

Kinda Jealous... When my wife and I both worked, she traveled a fair amount and I got kinda used to the house being me and the dogs. I would pay for that for a few days... I love her, but eating and drinking what i want as much as I want is kinda fun sometimes. I definitely ate more blood steaks.

Yup . Mine passed away in 2008 . I've been unsupervised for so long it's starting to hurt .
I'm thinking I might get me a nice 2 " thick bone in ribeye . Char it up over all mesquite wood , just until it stops mooing , and dive in with my bare hands . If I don't pass out first . Lol .

Sorry to hear about your wife.

but that sounds perfect!

My condolences about the Mrs. Chop.
on a different note, I had a near perfect porterhouse that was 2” thick at a Longhorn steakhouse one time. It was cooked perfect pink edge to edge, and oh my was it delicious. That was in Denver. I’ll not ever forget that steak, it was incredible.

Not sure about Longhorn , but Texas Roadhouse uses SV . I'm wouldn't be surprised if Longhorn does too . One one the best steaks I've had was the Outlaw ribeye from Longhorn .
I would have guessed the Longhorn steak was SV, but we have a Texas Roadhouse a couple towns over, they make solid good steaks, but they cook them over flame behind a window. It’s part of the entertainment while waiting for a seat, raw steaks are in a display case there to, you can pick one out if you like and watch them cook it.

The one I went to does too , but you can see the tubs with SV stick cookers in them . Vac pac'd steaks in racks .
Honestly, I never saw that, nor did I pay an attention or looked for the tubs, but I will. Every steak I’ve had at TRH has the signature gray line top and bottom pink center. I’ll start paying more attention though.

I can honestly say the best steak I ever had was a tbone a buddy grilled for me! I remember him telling me... go to the store and ask for the oldest steak they have ... if a tad discolored even better! Little bit of Lawrys seasoning and on the grill till just barely medium rare... no utensils needed! I still remember the juices dripping down my chin!

No turkey or ham supply issues here in NW GA. Turkey at food lion is .69/lb and .89/lb at wally world. Plenty of all sizes and just breasts.

Some of the cheaper brands of Turkey are sold out. Butterball is$0.98 whole birds and $2.29 Whole Breasts.

Ya I heard the same so our small town grocery store ( less than 1,000 people and no stoplights lol) had them for $1.15 / lb. I bought 2, a small one and a big one. Definitely good on hams here!

Less than 1000 people and no stoplights? Wow! Thought Emporium with 2000 residents and 2 lights was Small! Guess we are going Big Time. Just got us a new Ace Hardware, by golly!😁... JJ

I've noticed plenty of Turkeys and Ham in the stores around here.
I guess we're lucky that we don't have family gatherings. It's just the two of us and we're not crazy about Turkey.
For all I know we'll be having spaghetti for Thanksgiving....
Same here in NorCal, yesterday at one store they had a special on turkey $0.59 per pound, the catch was you had to buy two birds to get the sales price. Which tells me they over bought way too many birds, buying into the hype as well. Costco has had plenty of hams and dry rubbed and brined turkey. I'm not seeing a shortage at all, not even on bone in hotel breasts. I have 3 freezers with ZERO space due to stocking up on things because of the shortage rumors. I'm not buying into the hype any longer, I got meat, and fowl for a year.

I think the laws of “Supply vs Demand “ is what the hype is about and is due to price increases on practically everything this year.

The other morning after work my friend and I went to Meijer and got ours for $0.33 a pound. We were able to find him a 10lb. and I got a 13lb. They had a bunch averaging from 13lb. - 23lbs.
