OK update here on all the input, Northern Tool has their 15# stuffer on sale for $209, it has all metal gears. Looks like the best deal out there for the money and one with metal gears.Thanks again for all the help, I 'll be back soon asking for more help and what should my next step be. can anyone recommend a unit that will work well (and come with)  smaller diameter nozzles?  I make a TON of snack sticks..in both the 19mm and 21mm sizes, and the "shooter gun" that I have really is a PAIN in the butt to use..it works, but I can only load a small amount of casings on the nozzle at a time and have to reload the gun often.

Hey Dan I just got my weston 7#er in and made my first batch of 19mm snack sticks last night. The thing worked great. They are coming out with an 11 # unit right after the first of the year or right about christmas time , I just could not wait.

I have a Weston 7lb. Works good but the only thing i no like is the elbow still has another stick length in it after your done.

Yeah i'm not organized yet.

The LEM 5 lb you can fet a smaller diameter tube. I can slide 17mm casing on it with ease.

You mean the stuffing tube is still full after you're finished stuffing your casings?  I went to Home Depot and took my stuffing tubes with me, and found dowel rods that just fit in the tubes, then when I'm done and it won't push out any more, i unscrew the tube from the machine, leaving the sausage casing still on the tube and push out the rest of the product from the large end of the tube into the casing so i don't waste any product!  you can see the dowel rods in this picture:

Works like a charm and makes more useable cased sausage to eat!

Dowels rinse off easily and stuffing tubes are much easier to clean too!

I do the same with dowels. The weston has a bottom elbow unlike flat like the others, thats where you have some mix left over. I use my LEM and water stuffer more than the weston.

I have a 20lb Weston. Had it for several years. Works well but as others have stated, the Westons leave a good bit of meat in the bottom. Also, mine don't do slim jims well. Too much pressure and it squeezes out the top. Would probably go with another if I were to do it over again.

Pops gives a good tip with the dowels.  I usually just pick up a wood spoon out of the crock you see on his counter in the back and use the handle.  The dowels would work better.  Also, giving them a good and intermittent treatment with mineral oil will lessen their tendency to absorb the nasties.
