Question/ Clarification??

A slab of ribs is a whole rack of ribs (one side).

A slab of bacon? Is that a whole side also? A friend wanted a 1/2 slab of bacon. When I cut my sides I usually get either 3 or 4 good pieces each of which I standardly refer to as a slab.

So when referring to a slab of bacon, what is the proper amount?

Acres, sections and chords were also a mystery for a long time, I thought I had these units of measure all figured out by now.

I learned rods in the oilfield its how pipeline right-of-ways are bought and paid for.

That was kind of my thought on it too. You buy bacon by the pound, you pick your slab.

So its not a unit of measurement? Its the definition of the product?

To me, it would be whole belly.   But probably best to check with your friend and ask him what his meaning is.

i think slab bacon is just another name for belly bacon, sold by the pound in pieces or all ready sliced ready for to fry.

So slab is like a hunk of meat, it's an accepted type of nomenclature or a moniker vice a unit of measure.

A local store here my neck of the woods, sells bacon slabs about 7 by 7 inches, uncured. These are square and I have not researched the price as of yet.

Just go by trial & error:

Walk into a butcher shop & ask the guy for an acre of Bacon.

Record the reply, and then try ordering a section, etc, etc.

When you get the one you wanted, that's what you call it.
