I'm hearing cell service is spotty in some parts of that area-especially down in the valleys. Every cabin should have had a weather radio. No power or cell service necessary. We used one at our duck camp in the middle of nowhere. Saved us a few times from bad storms in the middle of the night....

Definitely would have saved some lives in this case. But that is literally water under the bridge now.....

It's heartbreaking to see tragedy & loss of life on this scale. So much pain and sadness. My thoughts are with all the families affected and all the great folks doing the work to recover and help those affected. The greatest thing we do as humans is to help others in time of need.

Prayers to the people down there. Went on my Aoudad hunt around the Roosevelt area, haven't checked in with Brent yet to see how they faired. All the people I met on that trip were great folks to be around

Keep this thread non-political people. I know this is a sensitive topic, lets keep that in mind....especially in the polarized political climate we live in right now. This thread is about the people and the lives lost, not politics. Show some respect.
I totally agree.

Let’s keep politics out of it.

Society would probably be much better off if we set aside space to actually communicate - thoughtfully and respectfully - about politics (and religion and a bunch of other things), but this website ain't that. I sometimes wish the issue of relevance would be more enforced on even some non-political posts.

To borrow a popular meme:

I'm a little touchy on the subject of floods having lost my home, cars and all material possessions in the Halloween day flood in Austin in 2013.
Onion creek rose in exactly the same fashion as this one, at 6:30 AM water had reached curb height on my street, at 7:00 AM I was standing in stage 4 brown water up to my chest and I'm 6'4".
We had no warning and it was not even raining in south Austin at the time.
Turns out the LCRA had installed flood level (water) sensors that were not waterproof so as soon as they got wet they stopped working.
Sooo, just a little thought and some money spent on sensors and sirens care would have saved lives.
Pray all you want, it's still a free country but for God's sake use you head for something besides a hat rack.

Last thought:? 2 thoughts.
1 I lived on a barrier island , been thru a few floods.
I Moved off shore decades ago to avoid the floods.
You might say that I worked the islands for over 30 yrs.
Unfortunately it was the norm?
2 My daughter is a 1st Responder in 3 different municipalities.
She is the one who pulls you out of a car wreck ,swimming pool, Raging Ocean surf. ECT...
Do you think she cares about yur social/political views as she saves yur ass? Hell no !
RESPECT!? Would be nice!?
Enough Said !

Amen!

You were told to keep politics out and to be civil... if you don't, this thread will get locked.

Wow, that sounds a bit messed up.

Prayers 🙏 to the families who have lost loved ones and to the ones who have family or friends still missing .

Enough keep the Politics out of this thread or find some place else to post besides SMF. All of those doing so take notice it will not be tolerated.
