In case you have not heard....27 dead as of now. I hear stories that a wall of water hit some spots and rose 29 feet in 2 hours. Flash flood no one knew was coming; caught everyone off guard. Prayers......
I wonder if the funding/staffing cuts at the Weather Forecasting Services played a part in that? That's what state officials are claimingFlash flood no one knew was coming; caught everyone off guard. Prayers......

Assessing what went wrong is how we protect against future tragedies and prevent other people from likewise becoming victims. Doing so does not take away from the enormity of the loss at hand; if anything, we honor and cherish their memory by heeding the lessons to be learned. In the meantime, the storms to come will not wait for us to grieve.Probably true, but way too early for that … it’s about the victims and their families.
NWS was issuing flash flood watches and warnings as early as Thursday afternoon, including very specifically Kerrville, but the Austin-San Antonio office lacks a warning coordination meteorologist, among other positions, as a result of efforts to shrink the federal workforce. As a whole, the NWS has had more departures this year than in the past 15 years combined. The entire research division of NOAA - tasked with improving weather forecasting abilities - is currently slated for elimination in the next budget, including the National Severe Storms Lab in Norman, Oklahoma.I wonder if the funding/staffing cuts at the Weather Forecasting Services played a part in that? Local official from the area today was saying it's prone to flooding in that part , and has happened more than once . Acted like it was in the last 3 years . Not as severe though ,, but what a tragedy . Saying he thought some might have disregarded the warning if they got one ...I'm sure it has happened before there....
