I've had it so bad I couldn't put shoes on . I get it in my thumb at times too .Anyone else here have this?
I chose not to change diet and stay on the allopurinol, I drink a ton of water already. I cant recall the last flair up. So its workingI had it last year, on the outerside of my left foot. It hurt so bad I thought it was broken. Got on Allopurinol for awhile, cut back on drinking and increased my water intake daily, and haven't had it since. I stopped taking the Allopurinol about 3 or 4 months ago and it has been good. When I did some reading on it, water intake seemed to be a helping factor for alot of folks.
Beer
Beef
Seafood
Are just a few they say is high in purines. Thats what raises your uric acid level.
Hope you get it figured out, that s*** hurts like hell.
You're really not gonna like this part but red meat contributes to flare ups of gout. So, the last few days my right foot has been hurting.....bad. I thought it was bunion issue. I took the colchicine and allopurinol together at first. Its been a long time, but I think it got better pretty fast. Im on the 300mg size. Thanks all. I'm taking cherry tart pills. I was just prescribed 100mg Allopurinol .
The Doc. And. I was amazed my doctor looked at me. Talked to me about my diet. And he said to back off on seafood for a couple of months. @sandyut How long does it take for the Allopurinol to take effect?
Yeah. I read that. I'll wait to see if I need to curb that! Thanks for letting me know. You're really not gonna like this part but red meat contributes to flare ups of gout.
I have two co-workers that have it and they had to drastically reduce their red meat intake to avoid flare ups.
It is not the sole cause of it though.

the couple flair ups I had over 20 years were nothing in comparison to the first one. Kinda felt them coming.
It depends on your philosophy as to how much to change in your diet. I eat less red meat now than 20 years ago, but that was not a decision based on gout. heart issues and general healthier lifestyle as I get older was a bigger influence.
It does suck!!Damn, sorry to hear this, Steve.
I have a buddy that suffers from it really bad, I've seen him in tears over it a few times.
Good luck and do what the Dr says.
