I had it last year, on the outerside of my left foot. It hurt so bad I thought it was broken. Got on Allopurinol for awhile, cut back on drinking and increased my water intake daily, and haven't had it since. I stopped taking the Allopurinol about 3 or 4 months ago and it has been good. When I did some reading on it, water intake seemed to be a helping factor for alot of folks.
Beer
Beef
Seafood
Are just a few they say is high in purines. Thats what raises your uric acid level.
Hope you get it figured out, that s*** hurts like hell.
It certainlly does! Thanks for the info.

I know people that had gout, went Carnivore and eat tons of meat and red meat like beef and no more gout. I don't buy the red meat an gout connection. I think the biggest culprit in the SAD diet is hidden fructose in processed foods....like BarBQue sauce for instance....or standard ketchup...people don't realize how much of it they consume until they start tracking it.
My doctor knows that at times I react to some seafood. Usually clams. I swell up. And need benadryl. Once. I needed a shot. He is curious to see if this is an escalation.

For sure on the booze . Cherry juice , or I see he got you pills . It works . Tart cherry juice and watch the booze .
Yeah...most people know about that connection, but thought I would mention it. But the fructose is one most people don't know about. our cells can not burn fructose like it can glucose. It must be converted in the liver into fat, and one of those steps along the way, it can be converted into uric acid. So the liver makes a lot of uric acid from fructose consumption (and a lot of fat). Cut that out, along with the booze, and you attack the bulk of the problem head on.

I chose not to change diet and stay on the allopurinol, I drink a ton of water already. I cant recall the last flair up. So its working
I didn't really change mine either, I did cut back on the beer and bit but that was about all

I never thought of fructose being a factor, but that makes sense. Thanks for sharing that

I did not know either....until I started down my own health journey doing Keto in August 2024. But now i know....and I can't unlearn what I know now. Can't go back to the way I use to eat.

I Got it. Brother has it. Dad has it… Worst ever my right knee blew up a couple days after 5 days in New Orleans- go figure 🤪 Anyhow been on alopurinol ever since and no more serious flare ups. Note the alopurinol is primarily to prevent, not to treat. Staying well hydrated is your first defense followed by alot of the advice above.

I have had gout for a couple decades. It was very painful at first, but meds fixed it. For me its been very manageable with minimal flair ups. I take Allopurinol daily to keep it away. I took colchicine at first when it flared up, but I havent taken that for a very long time.
Exactly the same for me. Not one problem since taking Allopurinol.

Never changed my high protein diet, eat and drink what I want. The Allopurinol seems to be the fix for me. Best of luck and hope the pain eases.

I'm on my third dose of allopurinol. Feeling quite a bit better. The pain is now only in my big toe. But that could also be my bunion acting up. Tender along that toe. Flexing my foot is much better now.
Im sure the doc told you this, but the big toe it the most common place for it to appear/flair up.

Good to hear your pain is subsiding. Ping me if/when you get ready for bunion surgery. My wife had a wonderful experience, but a buddy of mine had a different procedure and they fused his big toe to his foot. It doesnt bend in any direction and now he has issues getting shoes on. I feel like he got the wrong procedure. My wifes doc gave her two options, neither involved fusing...

Thanks. That's what I've heard. That it starts in the big toe. I've only had bunion issues twice in the past. I'll be in touch if it looks like this would be a problem. Appreciate it.

So-digging into this a little more and the nuance of protein consumption. Eating lean protein with little to no fat is bad for uric acid production because without the fat, the body has to use the protein as fuel by converting it in the liver. This liberates nitrogen and the steps to make urea for elimination also can create uric acid. But eating slightly less protein with 20-30% saturated fat gives the body fat for fuel, so the body will burn that instead of using protein for fuel. So no uric acid production. Heavy exercise or HIIT training will worsen Uric acid production in the body. So this is why my Carnivore friends do not have a problem eating huge amounts of meats....they also consume the appropriate amount of fats for fuel.

Just joining this thread.
Aspartame is also another trigger for gout. My wife found the research 15 years ago and I cut out diet soft drinks
