Hello all!

Well I have been reading here for about 2 weeks and decided to register. I enjoy cooking and have always considered myself pretty decent behind a flame. So a friend of mine gave me his old smoker and seeing as how I have never used one I started reading all I could, which is what landed me here. It's like a whole new world has been opened up to me! I have enjoyed being here and not only did I refurbish this old smoker. My first smoke was a brisket that I finished today! My fingers are greasy as I type and I smell of smoke.. It's like heaven! I'm going to attempt to upload some pics..

Here is the smoker my friend gave me.. Brinkmann Smoke n Pit Deluxe..

Doing some work on that rust with my grinder..

I was pleased that there were no rush holes. I made some brackets because I wanted a shelf and drilled out 2 holes for thermometers.

Had to make 2 new handles too. I'm not all that good with wood working. They could have turned out better but hey, what a difference!

Two thermometers from Lowes.. About 8 bucks a piece.. Not the best but I didn't want to spend a ton and I tested them, they are accurate. Yes I used high heat paint. Supposed to be good up to 1200 degrees.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the pics..

Nice looking rehab. Looks like it's good to go for another generation of smoking. Its amazing how things which we never thought of, when shared, make such an impact. Now you are hooked on smoke too. It was a luxury till you got one, it will be a necessity from here on in.

Nice to meet ya Dave, looking forwward to lots of pictures of those great smokes you have comming up.

Now when you see someone smelling their fingers, you might consider them less crazy and reconize the smoker secret handshake...:LOL

Welcome from Canada, Dave.

Looks like a great job you did on fixing up that smoker.

I only started smoking last year and the information on this forum was invaluable as were the kind members and their advice.

I look forward to your posts!
