New to the site from Suthern Oregon

  1. Hi everyone, my name is Bill, I live in southern Oregon and I am new to the site. I have searched a few different recipes online and got brought to this site, so I figured I was time to join what seems to be a great group of people who love to grill and smoke food!

I have been smoking ribs for a few years now. I stared out with a Weber grill and focused on indirect cooing with soaked wood chunks. I then decided to get an electric smoker that was on sale. It is small has three cooking grates and basic water and wood chip pans. I never had good luck with this because by the time my wood would start to smoke the temp would be to high. So I got a second Webber so I could cook more at one time. The downfall with both of these is they don't have a thermostat so I have always smoked by guess and site. I know that is not the best, but I have had some good luck over the years.

I have been wanting to get a smoker with a side burner for the last year but didn't like the prices I saw. I didn't want to make a big investment only to feel let down like I did with the electric. So I have been patiently waiting to find a good deal, and two days ago I did!

Someone purchased a new gas grill and wanted to get rid of there old side burner. So I was able to pick it up for $33! I figured for that price, even if it isn't that great I am not out a lot!

So now my new adventure begins, learning how to get great smoked food on my new toy! I do think I now need to invest in  dual probe thermometer so I can use this to its fullest and not be let down by user error.

I look forward to learning from all of you and hopefully making some new friends who love this hobby/sport as much as I do. Look forward to talking with you all soon!

    Thanks,

    Bill
