Hello,
Just joined the forum however very familiar with it, as I have utilized some of the great posts. I am from Burlington Ontario, just outside Toronto. I have been smoking meat for the past two years on my Weber Bullet and have wanted an offset for about a year now. Looked around and realized the one I want based on construction and quality would run me a lot more money than my wife will allow me to spend.
So, I thought I would build my own, problem being, I haven't picked up a torch since auto shop 30 years ago, I have no welding experience. Have always been fascinated with the process so I signed up for a welding course at a local college in the winter. I was taught the basics over two months and have been practicing the past 6 months at a buddy's fab shop. I have huge respect for welders and fabricators, you folks are craftsmen (people)! I have become decent enough that I am ready to take the plunge, fortunate enough to have a friend who is a fabricator so need to get working on this, nothing ventured nothing gained. I have read a lot of the threads on this forum, and have learned a lot so thank you to all who have posted, however, I realize the real learning will come over the next few months as I start to build.
Looking forward to being a part of the forum and perhaps share some of my learnings for all the newbies like myself out there.
