Greetings all! Well, I pulled the trigger on a new saw. Going to semi retire my 1974 or 75 Stihl farm boss. She still walks and talks but I wanted a new saw and she can serve as a backup. I spent the time and reviewed different manufactures. Some really good saws out there but I kept coming back to Stihl. It came down to the MS 291 and the MS 311. I chose the 311. There are 2 places in our area that you can buy Stihl saws. First I called the guy who has worked on the old saw for many years. He said $525+ tax. Sounded ok but I called another dealer who I have never dealt with. Asked him it if I walked in with 500 cash would he take it for the 311 with no tax. He agreed. So the next day I went by the shop that has worked on my old saw and told him I was going to by a 311 that day and I had 500 bucks in my pocket He said no. Went to the other shop and walked out with the 311 saw for 500 bucks. Fired her off this morning to finish the butt of a big ole hickory that had blown down last spring and a wild black cherry that blew down a few weeks ago. You can never have enough smoking wood and both of those are my favorites. I was shocked at how she walked and talked through them. I am very happy with my decision. I highly recommend the Stihl MS 311 saw. Take care and keep on smokin!!

Sweet! Congratulations on the new saw. Looks like she's up to the task.

It may just be age and wear, but those gas fill and bar oil caps, on the older Stihl that I use, are frustrating as all get out.

I bought a couple of new Stihl chainsaws last year with the flip caps, The newer ones are easier to use than the older ones that I have owned.
That's good to know.

I've thought about talking to the local dealer about new caps, but I don't own the saw, (Girlfriends), and it doesn't get used, often.

Nice!
You sure can’t beat a Stihl!
I have a Stihl hedge trimmer that is over 30 years old & use it weekly. Still runs like new!
