I love the Vortex in the Kettle, such a quick way to fire up some dinner with excellent results.

Two different rubs, my go to bbq rub on the ones to be sauced and a SPGO on the rest. Tossed on some cherry wood chips for flavor.

Sauced up using some Salt Lick Honey Pecan cut down with a bit of water

Grabbed a picture after the first thigh was already in a 14 year old growing boys mouth... Turned out great, just love how the vortex crisps up the skin and still gives a smokey flavor. The family loved the meal.

Thanks for looking,

- Jason

Great meal
I'm still chuckling at the 14 yo human food disposal. I surprised there was any food left for the family. I've seen girls out eat the boys, too.

Looks amazing, that last picture makes me hungry. I would clean all of those plates by myself. It is entirely too easy to make wings vanish...
Thanks, they did not last very long....

It was a fight to keep him away, happy to only have lost a Chicken Thigh!

Those look awesome Jason! I see you like me and go for the flappers. I can just buy those without the drummy at HEB.
Thanks Brian, yep flappers from HEB is the way to go!
Huge fan of the kettle/vortex combo for chicken. Yours looks perfect, nice cook!
Thanks Rafter H BBQ Rafter H BBQ !!
Those look good!!! Looks like you sauced pretty early how did the skin end up?
Thanks, yes, typically I sauce a 5 minutes before pulling or after pulling. Sauce early as the wings hit 150 pretty quick, I still prefer saucing before eating...

Your wings look fantastic! Vortex cooking is so much fun. Nice post
Thanks!!! yes, such a simple mod that is a game changer!
Perfect! Such a great and easy tool to use... and quick!

Ryan

Heck yeah looks good. Kind of miss my old cheap kettle and my homemade vortex. Made it by cutting the top and bottom out of a terracotta flower pot at the height and opening size I thought wanted. Worked great until it started cracking out and I couldn't humpty dumpty it back together anymore.

LOL, yep such an easy and inexpensive set up, you really can't beat it for wings and chicken.

Those look amazing! And my favorite part of the wing, the flat. I wish I could find just the flats here in AZ. You Texans are so lucky to have HEB. I very seldom get to TX, but when I do, hitting an HEB is a must.

Wow, those wings look amazing! I have never seen the vortex in person or up close but I'm guessing it throws the heat up the center giving you a nice hot indirect fire? I use baskets on the edges and cook in the center for a similar effect. This reminds me, I need a new grate for my weber.
