Meat temperatures on offset smoker. Help!

Hey guys, so I've got a Horizon offset smoker. I've done multiple smokes on it with some pretty good success. The only issue I'm having is the differences in temperature from one side to the other. I put a buffer in which helps but when I did ribs last weekend, the side closest to the firebox is getting done a lot sooner than the other side. Same thing happened with my pork butt.
