I am currently looking around on Marketplace for my first offset.
I have come across this one pictured below and thus far cannot tell what brand or model it may be.

Anyone know a possible make/model for this smoker?
Reminds me of a older New Braunfels with the body shape, the fire box access, and the straight legs.
I know chargriller bought NB in the early 2000's and I believe the legs changed to bent tubing at that point, so it would be before then if it is an NB.

I've been unable to find any other smokers online that have a right side stack that is in the center of the barrel

Have you asked the seller? I have bought a few smokers from ads… a lot of folks selling smokers don’t know what they have. They just post it as a smoker. Sometimes if you ask they will say the name… sometimes not. But to people that are not into this hobby or way of life… they may know the name and just don’t think it’s a big deal… to them it’s just a smoker. Hope this makes sense.

I did ask, via messenger, and the fella ignored that portion of the text.
I have set up a time to look at it today. I will see what info he may have. Sounds like he painted it somewhat recently, so maybe there is a logo under the black somewhere.

If the cook chamber walls are thick enough, I will probably come home with it either way

I found some very similar to this for less than $100. Man, if you could score it for $70 it would be a good deal. My guess is someone added 2 of the wheels that are on it? Hey, That may be a cooking machine! It would be worth checking out.

Well I went ahead and bought it.
Bad storms rolling through tonight until saturday, so I will not be able to attempt a run until the following weekend.

It is not what I was really hoping it would be when I showed up (1/4" steel and 300lb 😆), but I think it will be a good start on learning to use an offset.

I could not find any markings on it. I'd say it is a cheaper brand and had a decal on it. Previous owner said his son bought it in the early 2000's but he has had it for the past several years

Well I rolled the dice and came home with it.
It is not exactly what i was hoping for, but at the current prices for my area I think it was worth the gamble.

This is my first offset. What mods should I be looking at to ease in the learning process? (I know it is not 1/4" thick)

Thus far I'm thinking:
●V-shaped firebox insert
●heat sink in the cook chamber (I have a couple bags of filter sand already, maybe put it in something)

I've read a little about baffle plates coming out of the firebox. I'm not sure if I would need one angled up, down, or maybe not at all?

When I had an offset I had to install some baffle plates to help distribute the heat more evenly in the smoking chamber. I made some metal plates and had holes in them. There are several methods to help distribute the heat across the entire cooking area. Man, enjoy it. The journey is half the fun.

I'd take it for a test drive a few times and see how it works, also not my business but are you leaving it on your deck, I'd be careful and don't turn your back on it.

Just do some test burns with no food and see how it likes to run, to start with. My OKJ Highland likes to settle in at about 175°F. It doesn't run there constantly as temp swings on either side are pretty normal with offsets. If I try to hold temps lower than 175, it's a losing battle trying to chase temps.

Sounds like I will test drive before putting the wrench to it.
Is the hole between fire box and cook chamber normally that large on other offsets? In my head it should be about half the size it currently is.
