I'm looking for a meat grinder and came across this one.
It weighs 22lbs, solid cast iron and also serves as a sausage stuffer. And has a reverse:) Price is about $75. And im not big production (yet) being a newbie lol
It's hard to find an electric meat grinder that has solid rating feedback and doesn't cost fortune.
What do you think?
Description:
Device designed to mince food products. The set cosists of: mincer, 3 plates with holes (3mm, 5mm, 8mm), 3 funnels in different sizes (15, 19, 22), knife, grinding plate, handle and 2 rings (small and big).
Machine made of tin-plated cast iron

I ground a lot of meat on one very similar, they work great. Mine actually has a clamp so you can clamp to edge of counter or table, that was handy. Trying to stuff sausage with one is a pain but if only doing the occasional small batch it can work.

I USED to manual grind. And believe you me, it was a GRIND.

Once I got a h.d. mixer that had options you could add: cookie paddles, MEAT GRINDER, whipping cream whisks, I wondered why I took so long to decide.

Yes, it was pricey (but not as expensive as some), but the time saved?? Wow, what took me an hour (and a very sore arm) in the past is now done in 10 minutes--usually less.

Really, re-think your position. You won't regret spending the bucks.

Thanks for replying...@voyager, you mean the kitchen robots? Got a photo of something like that?
How many pounds of meat are you taking about?

The way I see it is, before I get into it full blast, I can't buy costly machines...what if nobody likes my creations? But, if I make good stuff I think I can get more sophisticated gear etc...

@SmokinEdge, this one can be screwed to the work table so it's steady, and the stuffing bit I guess I will find out...😬
I also "think" that they work great...it's not Chinese junk @22lbs. I will have to decide soon because the meat bargains are soon coming up.
👋

I suggest asking yourself how often you plan to make sausage and how large will my batches be?
For very small batches once or twice a year you will be ok with a manual grinder.

As was mentioned, any grinder makes a poor stuffer.

You may want to keep your eyes open for a used electric grinder. Sometimes they can be picked up at a very reasonable price.

In looking at that website “browin.com” it appears you are from somewhere over in Europe? Welcome from Colorado.

That grinder appears to be a larger one, maybe a #22 or #32 I’m guessing and that’s a good thing. Also it appears that it’s set up with a v-groove wheel that the handle is attached to, if so it would be very easy to mount an electric motor beside it on the same board and add a v-belt between the two for electric operation. We always talked about doing that with ours but we would have had to manufacture the wheel part and just never did.

The Tin coating on ours is very good, auger is coated as well, but none of it is dishwasher safe. The plates and knives are bare steel not stainless so plan on a bottle brush and hand washing in soapy water.

I also noticed on that web site that they have manual horizontal stuffers for very reasonable price. The 3Kg one is 47,34 EUR which is less of an investment than the grinder so keep that option open.

Use the search function here or just ask questions, there are a bunch of us who can help you with sausage recipes from scratch that are delicious.

Well, you convinced me to go with an electric grinder:)
Mainly for the stuffing part and convenience.
Thanks 😊

I think you will like the convenience of an electric grinder. You may be less happy with how it performs as a stuffer.

I have this one. The meat grinder and stuffing tube are a separate purchase

How many pounds? I put through 15lb brisket in that ~5 min span. I can also stuff with a separate horn. I do employ my spouse when stuffing as it's just easier to have one push the meat in and the other to handle the outgoing sausage.

This is what attracted me to this

  • Powerful belt-driven Transmission ensures adequate torque for almost any recipe, even kneading up to 14 loaves (15 pounds) of whole grain bread dough or mixing up to 34 dozen cookies in a single batch
There are other machines that are more expensive AND ones that are less. Depends on what you want to do.

The attachments (grinder, etc) are just "icing on the cake" :emoji_wink:

Thanks Edge, yes I'm Czech origin, naturalized American and live in France.
Browin is in Poland and have great prices, great variety of supplies that I don find in France for half price and less for similar stuff. Plus they are reliable, knowledgeable and ship for free. My go to store. 😀

Actually, while looking at grinders I found some really good ones on Amazon, with good feedback from people that use it for sausages and are happy with it, so I decided to go with one 1500W and only grinding and sausage accessories.
Simple and basic.

To spare you the translation hassle, Polish brand, all stainless , ON, F/R, 2100W all disks and cutters in S/S and accessories.

@Faster I think that Zeegma grinder would serve your needs nicely. They don't state what size plate and knife it uses, but it looks like it could be #8 fwiw.

In case you didn't already know, the secret to grinding meat for good sausage is always grind very cold, slightly frosty meat chunks and make sure the knife and plate are sharp.

Sounds like you have lived and traveled to a lot of places over your lifetime. 👍

Thanks a lot, I didn't, great information, I can see the advantage

Glad you think the grinder is good, I know next to nothing about them, (my first electric one) so I was lookin at negative feedback to see what's wrong with them and when I see bad quality blades/knives, steel even aluminum parts I pass.
Plus this one is made in Poland

Yes, I traveled a lot.

Hi processhead, sure, tell me what you 🤔 💭
BTW, I used to live in Lincoln Nebraska and worked in the state house as a painter. 😁
looks like a great choice.

The reason I suggested mine was I wanted more than a "one trick pony".

Too many products out there do one thing (well I might add) but I want them to do more and that's my reasoning.

Ok, the grinder arrived and I'm not impressed 😒
It's nice, the outer part of worm gear is aluminum, worm gear steel and cutters are SS.
Body is plastic. It has a shredder attachment for vegetables. It feels like a nice machine for home, you Grind some beef, shred some veggies 😋 great

The BAD part is, it can't run more than 5 MINUTES!!!???
Isn't it kinda useless? And, if it overheats, you have to wait 1 HOUR? (It has an overheating protection.)

Honestly, would you keep it?

I would really like to get that big manual grinder #32 that I posted above. I don't mind turning the handle, my production won't be big anyway in the beginning. Few kilos/pounds at a time unti i know what I'm doing.
Since I can't grind and stuff alone, I thought of getting their stuffing machine for $45 or so...and i'm on basically same $$$

What is your experience/advice on this?
