This happened yesterday morning.

This morning at 5:45a Two dogs got into my coop and killed 17 of my chickens. This happened on Berrytown Rd
If your the owner come forward.
If you know who owns the dogs please contact Hardin County Animal Control as they have all the pics and case number.
If your dogs come back to harm my chickens that are left.
I WILL NOT HESITATE TO SHOOT YOUR DOGS. YOUR DOGS KILLED 17 OF MY CHICKENS.
PER
KRS § 258.235: Allows any person to kill or seize a dog seen pursuing, wounding, or killing livestock or poultry, or attacking people, without legal repercussions.
Imminent Threat: The protection applies only when the dog is actively engaged in the harmful act.

Two more chickens dies this morning from injuries for a total of 19.

They ran and I managed to get off 3 shots of 3" #4 shot nitro mags. I hit one going up the back of the property. I dont think I killed one but its wounded as there was blood in back. So far nobody has come forward with info. Hardin County says I can file charges if they find the owners.

That sucks, if they are still loose I'm sure they will be back. I would have no problems protecting anything on my property. Maybe police can check at any local vet offices to see if someone brought their wounded animal in.

Well that sucks Rick. I have a big stack of collars...no remorse from me either. Pet peeve of mine is irresponsible pet owners. Even seeing someone driving down the HWY with the window down to let their dog put their head out the window...at 55-65 mph...is animal cruelty. And most owners have no clue why.....it is extremely hard on the dog's eyes and can cause health problems.

Any new neighbors recently ? If you haven't seen them before , that might be something to check into .

If you hit one , it's either laying out there , or made it back home and on it's way to the vet .
What a shame .

That sucks Rick. Hate roaming dogs and many people refuse to keep theirs confined to their property. Predators of all kinds is why I planed and built my coop the way I did selling eggs as my wife does now will never cover the cost of the coop. Not seeing her cry when a predator got in was worth the extra money in my book

Well, time to make lemonade from lemons. Don't know about up there, but that arctic blast pushed temps. down to soup weather down here in south Louisiana. Were it me, I'd be making a huge pot of gumbo with all the chickens. Or at the least, clean them and freeze for later use.

There's always a possibility that those dogs are rabid or have some other disease. I wouldn't risk it.

Chris

That really sucks Rick, I hope you find out who the owners are and give them a blast of rock salt where the sun don't shine.

True. But I eat wild game retrieved by dogs. I also eat wild hogs- and I am 100% certain they all have some kind of disease or parasites in them. Maybe I'm just OK with the risk. Heat kills a lot of stuff.

So sorry to hear this. We've had some dogs frantically trying to get ours, thank God for dig guards. Wife caught 2 in a humane trap and they were picked up by animal control. I've fired numerous shots from a .38 in many a dog's direction, the scare of the blast seems to teach a powerful lesson. I would not hesitate to shoot to kill if a dog ever succeeded in getting to our girls. It's so irresponsible to allow dogs to run wild. Good luck finding and suing the owners. Have you considered calling local veterinary clinics and asking about any recent interaction with a wound consistent with a gunshot wound? The law is on your side and you might get some valuable info. Good luck to you.
