I'm addicted, I've built 12 of these so far and still going strong and tweaking each one to be better than the last.  Most have gone to family or friends, curious if anyone has an idea what these go for on the market.  I know there's a guy in NC that sells em for $600 a piece, but I wanna sleep at night.  Each one has $115 in parts, maybe 6 hr labor.

Nothing ugly about those! Good job man. I guess the real question to figure out how much to charge is just how much do you want to tack on for labor and what the going market is. If a guy is selling them for $600 then I would assume if you sell them for less you should be able to make a profit for less than that if they only cost $115 in parts. Since you have 12 of them out there I would imagine the word of mouth business would come in for you.

Good luck.

Nice builds

.

I think if you charged $300, since a guy is selling them for $600 you'd do well. and that works out to round $30.00 an hour not a bad wage, especially for something you like to do.

Man those are great looking UDS. I think $300 -$400 would sell nicely if the other guy is getting $600

Appreciate all the compliments and advise.  I will throw the soon to be finished Florida Gators rig up on Craigslist at $300 and see what happens.  I really need to find cheaper parts and I'd really be making out.  Those 22.5" Weber cooking grates cost me $18 at Lowes.  The thermometers are $16.  Those are my two most expensive parts.  Figure if I can find a cheaper route on those things I may be in business at $200 a pop for a high-heat black painted cooker.

Well you got the colors right on one of those but you miss spelled GATORS

Razor... welcome back .. Since you've been here before I don't need to tell you how awesome the forums are... Don't be afraid to charge a little bit for your cool looking UDS's.. I think people would be glad to pay a little extra for quality merchandise, I do.

Keep an eye out for the "South Fl Gathering" (2nd annual). The first one was way to cool.. We had a good turn out (29 people) for the First time so the next one should be bigger and better... We held it at Fish Eating Creek Campground.. here's a link to the pictures http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/112802/south-florida-gathering-picture-thread

But anyways... welcome back

Just out of curiousity, what sticker or magnet are you putting on the side (Syracuse) that can withstand the heat?

Also, those drums kick A**!
They are just regular magnets, I have seen guys use the business card sized fridge magnets to cover their air intakes instead of using caps and ball valves on a UDS.  I have never had a problem with heat affecting the magnets or the paint.
