Fairly new to smoking. Had to give up motorcycles, long distance hiking, and welding due to a heart condition so I figured if I was gonna be pudgy I might as well eat good. I drug out a Brinkmann Electric that belonged to my dad that had never been used, found a rub recipe and a blog about using the Brinkmann for a pork shoulder, and now I am hooked. Also done the cheap ALDI briskets, roasts, pork tenderloins, some skinless chicken breasts wrapped in lemon butter. Ask my wife and youngest if they want to taste whatever I made and it is gone before dinner time.
New Years Day I did spare ribs and my oldest and his wife came up. Ended up being a day in the 40's with heavy winds. Found out how bad a Brinkmann is in cold, windy weather, and had to finish the ribs in the oven. So, I decided it was time to get a new smoker, that is when it all went wrong.
I am a severe over thinker who researches too much. I like the electric and simplicity of it so I was going to grab a Masterbuilt. Then I found the stories of them not lasting and even coming broken. Considered Pit Boss and they apparently are worse. Ok, a pellet smoker, well they don't have a smoke flavor unless you use a smoke tube, or two, they can also catch fire and burn up your yard or deck. Considered a gravity feed but they seem somewhat small unless you pay a small fortune for one. Bronco 2 is in the running as well but folks cant decide if they are easy to control or not. So, thought I would find some folks use these smokers and see how they feel about them.
