My name is Eric and I've been smoking now and then for about 4 years. I've been smoking on my 4 burner gas grill, which does work to a degree, but have wanted a smoker since my first batch of ribs turned out pretty tasty. I thought if they tasted this good on a grill how much better would they be on a smoker. Unfortunately I'm one of those guys who would rather build something or fix something myself rather than buy something or pay someone else to do it.(I think its somewhat of a sickness). I've been lurking on this site for about a month and decided to join after seeing how much info is here and how great the people are and willing to answer any questions and help with anything. I don't have a lot of money to invest in a smoker and considering what i'll be doing with it I've settled on building a big baby. Hopefully it turns out ok. I'm going to start a build thread to get some help with questions that I have.

I served 7 years in the Air Force, weapons troop. Worked on the gun system on the AC-130h for 4 years (best plane ever!) and worked on the F-16 for the remaining 3. I enjoy camping, hunting and fishing. And of course cooking!!!

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

You might want to check out Jeff's Free 5 day E-Course, it has great information to use no matter your skill level!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

Thank you so very much for your Service!
