Hi Ewan. Welcome to the forum. As you will see from here people have made smokers out of almost everything imaginable - even old cardboard boxes. The wooden smoker sounds great - please post up photos as it gets built.
im making it out of a pine frame with t&g on the sides its not very big maby 3ft high 18" square but have hit a few problems with what to use to connect the fire box to it
Hello the noo Ewan ! Wickes do an aluminium flexible tube for ducting tumble driers and cooker hoods, I think it's around 4"/100mm diameter. Although I haven't used it on a smoker I have used it where a bit of heat was involved and it stood up well.
