I've had a gout flare up in my WRIST due to some medication I shouldn't have been given.  Needless to say, doing my main loves, BBQ/Sausage/Etc., has been a pain!  Yes, pun intended.

I have never had pain like this before and was wondering if any others here have dealt with it in the past.

I take a maintenance drug, allopurinol, to keep the acid from building up. It won't get rid of it, just helps keeping it from coming back. It is one of the $4 generics. Hope this helps cause I've had it both big toes and right ankle, it hurts.

I'll get some on the way home, love those things!

This has to be one of the biggest PINT I've ever dealt with.  I'm right handed, but I now realize just how much I use my left!

I go back to the Dr later in the week, I'll ask about it.  You're correct, I've broken bones and never had this type of pain!

Gout is definitely not a fun time. Allopurinol is the best. I've taken it every day for over 45 years. I sincerely hope you can get some relief from the pain. It's awful. Joe

GOUT.

Have it in both feet.  Hate it!

Had a flare a month or so ago that was so bad, I couldn't walk.  I actually got a pee bottle, so I wouldn't have to hobble walk to bathroom so often.

Yeah, it can hurt that much!

Thankfully it only lasted a week to 10 days at that extreme intensity.

For gout, try Montmorency (tart) Cherry Concentrate.  A tablespoon twice a day.  Either straight up, or mixed in water to drink.

Start with lesser amount and build up to 2 tbsp, or you'll spend a little more time in the john than you may like.

Tart Cherries are also good for general arthritis and joint help too.  Not a cure, but it does help a lot.

The best I've found is from http://kingorchards.com/

I used to have a route that took me past there every two weeks.  I always bought mine from their farm.   It tasted better than store bought, and seemed to work better too. At that time I was buying it for my hand and wrist arthritis.   But, I no longer drive past there, and tried store bought, but it didn't seem to help much, plus it tasted bad, so I just quit using it.

Wish now I had of kept up up it.  I think it may be time for a road trip to King Orchard for some more relief..  IT WORKED!

It's pricey on line, but if you can't drive there, it's worth it.  For one thing they cold process it, which retains all the properties that you need for

Hope this help you out a bit.the fruit.

First off welcome to SMF Alex and were glad to have you aboard. I have been a gout sufferer for about the last twenty years and the older I got the worse and more frequent the attacks came. If I'm not mistaken "they" say to stay away from red meat. Never heard of staying away from cured meats like bacon..........Well anyway...... I was miserable not long ago having attacks one after another and now for the past 2 yrs have been gout free. The medications the doctors were giving me I believe were causing me to have frequent gout attacks trying to keep my acid levels down.... So when when my acid level was low and i would eat or drink something I would have a spike in my acid level and my body would react to the spike and cause me to have a gout attack. I suffered gout attacks even when my acid levels were normal taking alopurinole. Another member here BIG TWIG posted on another thread about cherry concentrate pills and I took his advice. Here is the thread and take a look at post # 12.

I have stopped taking the prescription medications and have been taking the cherry concentrate pills and have been gout free for almost 2 yrs... I don't take them every day but if I feel something like a soreness I start taking them heavily and it goes away and life goes on...... I'm not a doctor or telling you to stop your treatment but this is my story I am sharing with you. I know what its like to suffer from gout and its miserable........

How about swinging over to roll call and introduce yourself so we can give you a proper welcome and don't forget to fill out your profile

Happy smoking

Hey CB. a lot has changed since then. The gout attacks started to re occur while using the black cherry concentrate. The black cherry concentrate does work but you if you suffer constant gout attacks like I do you will still get one every now and then. Dec 23 of last year I had a bad one in the knee.... took me out for 16 days.... My rhumetologist has been wanting me to stop the cherry concentrate and get on the allopurinol but every time I touch the allopurinol.. Bam... a gout attack so I kept on with the cherry concentrate. Talking with my cardiologist I explained my delema about not being able to get on the allopurinol. He asked me if I can go vegan for 2 weeks and then try the allopurnol so I did and low and behold I was able to get on it without a gout attack.I was told allopurinol takes about three months to work. I have been gout free since the knee. I suffer from gout in the feet, ankles, knees, elbows, wrists, hands and fingers (no toes.. Go figure). For a home remedy I would use the cherry concentrate . You can get it at gnc...for a doctors visit you Will need a steroid pack (A MUST) to reduce the swelling and relieve the pain and maybe some pain meds. For long term I would go with the allopurinol daily.

I feel your pain brother

JOE...... vegan !!!!!!! You have got to be sh!tt!ng me !!!!! Did the Doc. have any explanation for meat and how it affected the gout and allopurinol ?? I'm glad it worked but really... vegan... That's harsh.... Dave

No explanation. This was my cardiologist. He is awesome and I trusted his opinion..... I told my rheumetologist what I did  and they never heard of doing that and were surprised but it did work for me. I was trying to get on the allopurinol for a long time. Vegan for 2 weeks was unbearable but I made it

The going vegan for two weeks scared the gout right out of your body! Wait what do ya mean we ain't eating meat again!!!! Gout get out of here!

Thanks folks!

I'm 2 weeks into this wrist and it's better, but not right yet.  I agree with all, this is some of the worst pain I've ever had!

I now have 2-gallons of cherry concentrate and I'm also watching the purine foods.

Vegan for a week?  Better lock me in the veggie department at a supermarket, if I'm at home, something made of flesh would be consumed.

My cardiologist has given me the name of a rheumetologist to go see as well.

Gout....ughhhg. been dealing with it for 30 yrs.

I first thing, is your diet. Foods high in protein can cuase uric acid build up. Game(red) meats, organ meats (liver), shell fish are all uric acid producing foods. Beer, I know, say it ain't so, but yep if your prone to gout attacks, beer isn't good. Fortunately for me I don't like beer. But my brother will get attacks if he has more than a few beers a weekend.

We both take Allopurinol, and when we feel the slightest twinge of an attack we take Colchicine. The key is to recognize the attack ASAP, or the Colchicine may take much longer to work.

Ive been relatively gout free for 8 yrs since I lost a ton of weight. But that being said, I had lobster, shrimp, scallops over the weekend, and yep, my left wrist is toast. I haven't had it in so long, I failed to recognize the symptoms, and I'm paying for it.
