I will be visiting Georgia (Douglasville area) and was wondering if anyone had any recomendatons on good BBQ restaruants to try. Of course my sister-in-law has already informed my wife that nothing in Georgia is better than her husband's Q. (He is not a comp cook or smoker, mind you, just an expert on EVERYTHING.

If you don't beleive it, just ask him.)

I am sure at some point I will have to eat his boil/grill/drown in sauce ribs -- and will politely do so since I am staying at his house -- but was hoping to get some recommendations from a less biased source.

Thanks.

Dave

You ought to take some of your 3-2-1 ribs to GA with you! Give to the SIL first, then to the boiler. Ya'll might get to smoker shoppin together!

Dave,

There is a place north of Atlanta in Jasper called Bub-ba-Q. The place ain't real fancy, but they got great food. Definitely worth the drive!

Scotty beat me to it. Stop in there if you get a chance, you won't be disappointed and if you are, just talk to Bubba and he will set it straight. He is a good guy, tell him I said hello if you happen to run into him.

Well, if you're going to be downtown, Daddy D'z is pretty tasty. It's sorta in the projects off I-20 East, just outside Atlanta. Fat Matt's rib shack is also good and also downtown. Those are the two places I usually hit. Harolds in ATL is also pretty good. They've been around for about a million years, still in the same old building since the 1940's.

Don't know of anything out west of town near Douglasville. Sprayberry's BBQ in Newnan is good and it's a lot closer than Atlanta. Haven't had their ribs, but their pulled pork and stew are both good.

Ah jeez, almost forgot my favorite... The Southern Pit! It's down in Hampton, which is way out of the way, probably an hour or so south of Atlanta, but if by chance you're down that way, they are the BEST!

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I will compile a list of addresses and see if we can hit some of these.

If I say "Fatback Joe says Hi" will he know who I am talking about? Or will he call security and have me removed from his restaurant?

I would LOVE to share some of the knowledge I have gained here with him. I don't mean to sound uppity but after having ribs the way I have learned to cook them from this forum, I am kind of spoiled. If he is open to ideas, I will gladly share. Heck, I would even point him to the forum if he wanted. Of course then I would have to ask a mod to delete this thriead so he couldn't catch me talkin' about him.

jfoust....you beat me to it.

Southern Pit has been voted in the Top 5 in the Southeast (#1 many times) by Southern Living mag for years now for their BBQ. It is just south of the Atlanta Motor Speedway and it is nothing to see this place packed with drivers and crew during race week. There have been many helicopters landing next door for a quick lunch.

You must get the fries (hand cut) and brunswick stew (best anywhere).

Aah yeah! I absolutely LOVE southern pit. Dad's office used to be between the airport and the track, so they ate there every Friday for lunch. That place is a madhouse just about any time, but you can just about forget it on race weekend!

Their cracklin' cornbread can't be beat, either.
