Hi all,
Sorry for the repeated question regarding FB/CC configuration but I've hit a bit of a wall and hoping someone can shine a light on what to do next.

My questions are :
1. Does it matter that the FB/CC opening is significantly larger than the opening at the opposite end of the CC?

2. Does it matter that the FB/CC opening is significantly larger than what is suggested by the calculator?

3. Should the FB be the same width as the RF plate that divides the CC? Or are the two independent of the other?

Thanks in advance

I've put together the CC, RF plate and have created the following....
*Note : there is a slight slope from the entry to the CC to the RF plate which is the difference in sq. inch area below*

CC : 20" x 40" @ 5/16 steel
Opening from FB to CC : 158sq. in. (A - B = 22.6in & CC radius = 11.5in)
Sector area under RF Plate : 118 sq. in. (A - B = 21.6in & CC radius = 11.5in)
Opening at opposite end to FB : 21.6in x 5.3in = 114 sq. in

The Calculator suggests for the :
FB/CC opening to be 72sq.in ( possibly increased by ~20/30% being square)

Progress from a few weeks ago. Main door on, one of three doors on the fire box and the chimmny is standing! Next is to fit the silver door and fashion a door that gives access to a conventional grill at the top of the firebox. Coming together slowly...lets hope it works when its finally finished

I know this is an older post but was there any resolution on the FB/CC opening being larger than recommended?

On a RF the opening to the cc is the RF plate down, and no there is no benefit in being larger. You can only intake as much as you can exhaust. The intake and exhaust must be balanced and on a RF if you don’t have the upper air inlet on the firebox, you can’t move more are through the cc anyway.
