Have to say it probably a good Idea but to be honest. I close my thermopen up and only wipe it off when I think of it? Never made anyone sick yet. But in the age of politically correct? Also used to drink straight from the creek.

I just use Soap and Hot water...If Probe was clean on the first stick, exterior at 140*, you are not introducing any bacteria. The only time you need to have disinfecting wipes handy would be for multiple sticks using an Instant read, like in a Restaurant situation or to test IT of multiple meats at different stages of cooking. Considering you should not be punching holes in your meat anyway, by the time it becomes necessary to test for IT the meat is very nearly cooked and the IT would instantly kill anything that may be on the probe. Bottom line if you are really worried get them but outside of a restaurant I have never had to use them...JJ

I do the same thing -

i've got myself hooked on Zeiss Lens Cleaning Wipes from Walmart, they are $2.97 for a box of 50 6"x5" for your eyeglasses.  They are a ammonia-free alcohol wipe, basically.  I carry several in my pocket at all times.  You can use them for many things, like cleaning LCD laptops and iPads, cellphones, camera lens, plus your glasses, sunglasses, etc, and probes, too!  Something handy to have and a great little thing to offer others needing them!

I keep my Mavericks inside the house for trying to save the cost of getting another one.

I place them back in the box and rolled nicely tied with a twist tye , the probe gets washed each time I use it (wipe off the probe only , don't wet it...), then I wipe it down with Alcohol before each insertion . Sanitary wipes are sold , but are expensive , so...

Just sayin'...
