4 dollar difference between Carlton's and Don's. Wow is Denham a ritzy area?

No, but Don's is a high dollar clientele.

Some of those are restaurants, and some are seafood markets. The markets move hundreds and hundreds of pounds a week; make their money on volume. Restaurants sell @ retail....

I can't remember every seeing them for sale around. Do they taste similar to shrimp or lobster?

No...not really. But Lobster would be a closer match. Similar to the difference between fresh and salt water fish would be...Lobster is a cleaner, sweeter taste.

I actually prefer tail meat in an etouffee or a stew but everyone that comes here from out of town wants them boiled.
It takes 9# on avg. of live crawfish to yield 1# of tail meat. Better value is to buy tail meat......

While I am glad that the rest of the country can now enjoy "the crawfish boil", I do miss the days of cheap crawfish when I could get spillway run for $0.20/lb.
I don't host near as many crawfish boils as I use to......

I picked up 7 lbs of boiled on the way home from work the other day (New Orleans area). I paid $7 per lb, by far the most I’ve ever paid. But damn were they good!

By the way, when I lived in Baton Rouge for a while, I used to work near tramantes. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life.

Amazing. You can buy tail meat cheaper than I can. It's $10~15/lb. here for Louisiana tail meat. Imported tail meat from China is in the $5~9 range. I NEVER buy Chinese crawfish and recommend no one else do so either.

I just found one of our seafood markets that sells frozen Crayfish meat for 10.95 a pound. No specifics included in the description. I may have to make a trip and pick up a couple pounds. That etouffee sounds really good. If I do go, is there anything in particular to stay away from?

Look on the package and if it says imported from China, Do Not Buy!!!!

China does not have the regulations that we do on pesticides and pollution. No telling what is in the water the crawfish were harvested from. I've heard of too many true horror stories of food from china, from baby food to milk....fish to pork...I DO NOT TRUST THEM when it comes to food.

WOW! Holly2015 Holly2015 Gonna see if ours has some. That would be cool.

Funny story: family went to a local event on the lake and there was a cajun food booth and they had a boil going. 5-6 YO daughter wanted to try some so we got some. Wife and I got our walleye sandwiches (which was the star of the event as the local K of C hosts and it is all fresh caught and made). We proceed to chow down in the beer tent and an older couple watched us in amazement. Apparently their granddaughter is same age as ours only eats chicken nuggets etc and wondered how we managed to get our daughter to eat like that. We told them we don't know.

Live crawfish racing is a kids tradition at most all crawfish boils in the south. Kids pick a crawfish out of the sack and race them on a 4X8 sheet of plywood....
And most experienced kids know to pick a pond crawfish out of the sack with small claws. The uninitiated kids always choose a swamp crawfish with big claws and those big claws slow down a crawfish when he is crawling......

Yes I bought them on 1/29/19 the day the price was reduced. Package says best by 2/2019.

I too refuse to buy Asian farm raised anything. YouTube Asian shrimp or cat fish farms and you'll see that they do some interesting things. Shrimp raised in cascading 55 gallon drums in water I wouldn't use to flush my toilet. The drums are pumped full of tons of antibiotics to keep the shrimp grim reaper at bay. Catfish ponds have nets above them where chickens are raised. The chicken droppings fall into the pond and the catfish feast.

No thanks.
Ah, last year's crawfish. Still perfectly good.... great find!
