Bow hunters...a question.

Have a bow I've had sitting in a case (Bear Encounter) . Had it re-strung about 5 or 6 years ago and then bought a new Matthews, so the Bear has just kinda sat. Planning to give it to my nephew who's just getting into the hobby. String looks good (I mean...it's brand new), but having sat for 5 or so years, should I have it re-strung or think it'll be fine?

As a recurve shooter, I would probably err on the side of caution and have it restrung especially if I was giving it to someone else. I might take the risk myself, but wouldn't for another person. Bows, especially compounds store incredible energy in the string and they can do a lot of damage when they come apart.

Ive had strings and carbon arrows break on me. The arrow broke in 2 and hit me in 4 places. Likely if you waxed it, it would be ok, as long as its not frayed. But being on the receiving end of it before, I would probably just change it. Its no joke when those things let loose. Take it to a shop and have them check limbs and all. Nothing wrong with being cautious.

I’m a longbow/recurve guy also but my dad had a compound we were gonna give my nephew….brought to bow shop and they said it WILL blow up. It was about 20 yrs old though. Error on the side of caution - calling BEAR would be a good start

I would restring it. about 5 years ago I gave my old PSE Nova 4x4 to one of the sailors where I used to work and told him exactly that. Don't think he listened to me but that's his problem now. I have seen a bow come apart at the range one day and it was not cool at all. It was mid to late 90's and one of those wacky looking Oneida rigs and the top limb literally exploded putting a large amount of "stuff" into dude in several places... I was like 5-6 lanes down when it happened.
