DVR weekly...watch when I can with work. Enjoy having the ideas but it's completely different than home smoking and cooking. Even going to witness an event on its own it's different because they pound it all in a hour of tv.

I said before, that show is responsible for lots of smoker sales, I am quite sure the manufactures are tickled to death with that show.

I watch myself all the time without the drama..............lol

Yeah those shows have to have drama, or they would be boring.  Like the show Storage Wars  the one Texas Storage Wars the guy who has the silver hair and looks like Santa Clause is my Wife's first cousin that show went to his head so he acts tha way all the time now.  Jerk

I've often watched and wished I could go do what they're doing! After we buy our new-to-us suburban we really want to buy or build a smoker. We have been diligently saving cash so we can pay cash up front. Pretty soon I'll get to try out some stuff we've wanted to try from the show!!!

You can do what they are doing !  One thing they all have in common is experience. Once you get your smoker, get to know it cook simple things till you are comfortable. Kinda like riding a bicycle, at first you are shaky, then you smooth out but still very careful, and finally it is second nature.

Don't over think your smokes, keep it simple, then start experimenting till you get it just the way you and you family like it.

Not sure up where you live if there are many BBQ cook-offs  Try to find some and go, talk to the folks (They like to talk) and you will gain a lot more information than watching BBQ Pitmasters.

Good Luck   and a Big Texas Welcome

Gary gave great advice. Allow me a smidgen. A philosophy I coined while learning to fly Navy jets has served me well in everything I want to do. When faced with anything I look at the people who have proceeded me successfully then tell myself "If they can do it, so can I." Works great for BBQ too!

I agree 100%    I say that all the time to the Grandkids

Well you guys are very wise! I get frustrated with the limitations of my little chief and I confess, reading you guy's posts about brisket and turkeys and so on, I seem to be suffering from a case of smoker envy!! I have lost sight of the fact that my little chief is excellent at what it is created to do and has already made some fun stuff.

Also, it was free (which happens to be my favorite price!!)since my dad won it as safety prize from Weyerhauser 20 years ago and never used it! I "liberated" it from the depths of the barn. My dad forgave me cuz I feed him lol!

Thank you for your timely dose of perspective, this forum is a great place!

With much love

Had to give up on watching this show.

The sheer volume of drool watching that show produces just can`t be healthy.
