Most that know me, know its been a year from h*ll at best.

My dog has been ill since late May, various issues. He would show improvement, then get worse than before. Repeatedly. Lots of testing, imaging, etc. to no avail. He eventually stopped eating and drinking, so no bowel movement, no urinating. We finally made the very hard decision to put him down, he had been through enough. Kona was just over 10.

Its very sad, our other lab is only a year younger at 9 years old. He seems to not comprehend that he is alone now.

Condolences to all that loved the dog. It is never easy to make the decision to put a dog down, but you make the decision with the best interests of the dog at heart. I have put down 2...it sucks. Hang in there...

Brutal Dave, so sorry bruth'a, I haven't had a dog/ I also had Yellow Labs in a few yrs, I don't handle when they die or you have to put them down...I'm a big wuss when it comes to that.

Many thanks Dan! Yeah I am pondering if I want to keep this up. I love dogs but there is a brutal end that comes real fast. We still have Kai who is 9. But his life will come to the same end as well, likely in a year or two. My wife may not want to go dog free, but I am leaning towards that. We are retired and there are ropes attached to pets.

Kona was pretty much my dog. we bonded early and we were tight. its special, but that just amps the pain when they die.

That's hard Dave. I had to put my wife's cat down in 2020 at 19 years old. (Kitty was actually my cat in her mind.)
We're done with pets, but if you up for a new adventure with a pup go for it. Grand kids will remember that experience growing up together.

So sorry to hear. Our pup is 11 years old and is still in great shape but the years on him are taking their toll. The worst thing about owning a pet is when that day comes, and it is never easy. We are in the same boat about if we'll get another dog or not.

I'm the same Dave, I freakin love Lab's but they just don't live long enough. And losing them is brutal at best.
Carol's last day at work was Sunday.
The day after she retired her13yr old cat had to be put down. Carol was a big yime mess. The only plus is now we have nothing holding us back, we can finally travel. At least until she gets another one. I never had a cat until this last one. I'm far from a cat person, but they aren't as bad as I thought they would be.

Dave hang in there man, it's gonna get better. It has to at this point.
