When I was picking wild Black Raspberries I found the wild Blackberries then when picking them I found the wild Plums.

As I took my daily walk I kept an eye on the plums. I’ve never seen many wild plums and wasn’t sure when they would ripen up.
I went back after a week’s absence and they were ready to go and I had no bag so the next day I was ready. I had to crunch my time as the Canada fishing trip was a few days off. If I waited till I got back they would be done.

I’ll pick more tomorrow before heading out and will process the juice then freeze it and make two more batches when I return.

Very nice! Looks delicious. Nice work.

I have a little plum tree in the yard that puts on plums that look just like those.

I __LOVE__ wild fruit jellies!!! Oh man that toast!!! Never had wild plum. Sounds FANTASTIC! Would like to learn how to forage for stuff like that.

My dad was an ole country boy. He foraged a lot of wild food and could remember when it was time to go pick everything!
He always had to have a couple of meals of poke salat every year.
Then there was huckleberries as he called them. Don't know if they were huckleberries or blue berries. Didn't even know there was a difference back then. Black Berries and Dewberries too. I never was too fond of the Black Berries but Loved the Dewberries. There was also wild Plums, or maybe they were Sloes. Not sure, but they got called Plums. Lastly there was the Possum Grapes. Loved them too.
Sadly we lived too far North for Mayhaws but on trips to visit the more Southern relatives we were sometimes lucky enough to score a jar or two.
Also sadly, all the areas we used to find all these goodies are now leased up by hunting clubs and marked posted.

Use to pick Dewberries down at the river. They have done so much removing trees and such not sure they are going to be there anymore.

Yum...I love pies and preserves, and yours look amazing!!!

Out here on the CA Delta, you can't walk a 1/4 mile without running into wild blackberry patches, some of them are whole fields taken over by the berry bushes.

I absolutely hate picking them though.
I will pick a 5 gallon bucket every summer, and we make ice cream, scones, pies, but my favorite is blackberry wine. And old black man used to crappy fish off our duck camp boat dock. And he used to bring us a few jugs of his berry wine for the access. holy cow was it good. I've never seen anyone that could catch crappy like the man either. So we became friends, he taught me his crappy fishing secrets, and how to make his blackberry wine.
I haven't made any in a few yrs, but this post was just the kick in the ass that I needed to make it once again.
Thanks a bunch.
Dan
