i live on a border town. sault ste marie michigan is just across the bridge.

the missus went across today to get some food so i can Q.

she went to the butcher and asked,

"Can i get a boston butt or a pork butt, you know something to make pulled pork sandwiches."

butcher said, "i am sorry we dont cut our own meat here, but i can order it for you for $5/lb"

she was like..WTF... you gotta be joking right? a butcher that doesnt butcher their own meat? $5/lb???

she said no thanks of course.

i think i need to find a place to start raising my own hogs..lol

ok i am done ranting and venting..lol

I'd do more than rant and vent! Like some others, I'll pay less than $1.00 a lb. on the average. Keep looking, and ask others too, you've got to find a better deal my friend.

Seems more and more "Butcher Shops" and "Meat Markets" don't cut any meat kinda makes ya wonder doesn't it

I have been buying butts for under a buck a lb

i wish we could find it there for cheap. they are the bigger grocery store, no competition and only a walmart that isnt a super-walmart -yet...

mind you i did find some baby backs for 3.99/lb at home in ontario which is good considering they are usually 8.99/lb

Wow teacup, sorry to hear that absurdity. Even here in Jersey I can get butts for usually under $1 per lb. and that is great considering a lot of meat prices. Are there no other grocery stores you can go to? Even one around an hour away, if they had good deals, would be worth the trip if you stocked up.

Well, I just checked a map and you weren't kidding about living on a border town. At first I automatically thought near Mexico, I used to live close to the border in Az.
If you know anybody in the restaurant business you could always ask if they can order you some meats from their provider for cost.
I wish you luck on your journey to find a better meat provider.

what separates soo ontario and soo michigan is a river called St. Mary's River.

As for driving an hour away for a better place for meat, well we are THAT place..lol

i use to live in Maricopa/Casa Grande a few years ago

If you lived on a Texas border town near Mexico, y'all could just shoot yer own wild hogs! Ya gotta shoot 'em or they'll run ya over! lol!

Albertson's have butts on sale this week for 99¢ lb. here in the metroplex (DFW), wish I could email you a few!

I understand that wild hogs are becoming more and more of a problem in Michigan. Soon you'll be able to shoot your own for free.

BTW Sweetbay in the Tampa St Pete area has picnic roasts for .99/lb right now.

i passed through there awhile ago and couldnt believe all the new business's and houses that just "popped" up.
