Finally found my first Trip Tip at the Albertson's grocery here in Monroe. Kinda pricey I thought ($4.97#) but I bought one anyway.

Guess I'll give it a try this weekend.

I'm in Ohio, I never see tri-tips in the rack. However a lot of times if I ask the butcher has them in the back.

Take care,

Brian

I've done a few tri trips and I really like them. I've got a friend thats a butcher for kroger and he'll cut one when I need it. Good luck with it and enjoy.

Is it trimmed, CajunS? (not much fat at all on it) That may add some cost. If you like it, the cost will be pennies.

I can get it for $3.29/# if I buy about 16#, one vac bag. It's easy, doesn't take long, and is very tasty.

Hope you like it as much as we do. If you have any questions, just ask. I've smoked about 35#'s of it. Still don't know what the hell I'm doin, but I can bs pretty good.

Good luck, show us some pics.

Thanks Al

, it is trimmed pretty good, weighs a little over 3#'s.

I plan on reviewing all your old tri-tip posts so I don't screw this one up. I'm excited about having something new to play with

I got a new bottle of horseradish sauce also.

Thanks for the heads up! I was going to buy a brisket for this weekend, but I may hit up on Albertsons instead to see if they have them in Shreveport as well.

Thought you'd never ask

Here is the 3# tri tip after trimming about ½# of fat off it.

After a simple rub of salt, fresh ground pepper, garlic salt and onion powder

Sharing time with the brisket. Panned the brisket at this time also.

Put in a chunk of pecan and this chunk of cherry (for Scott)

Flipped after an hour at 350* on the hot side of the smoker

Well done was required by the wife

Plated with a baked tater, spinach salad and grilled bread

Although I would have liked a little bit rarer finish, I loved the taste of the tri tip.

Looks scrumptous cajunsmoker. I gotta find me one of those tri tips.. I know BigAl swears by em.. but then again he just swears a lot.

It's from the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs, Ark. Baby spinach, red onion, shiitake mushrooms (if not available Portabella). Fry bacon, add bacon to salad and wilt with bacon grease and balsamic vinegrette dressing. Good eats.

Very, very nice Rodger! Not surprised at all, you always have great look'n food. That meal looked fantastic!
