Carol quit here job at Sprint after 10 years with a perfect record, no lates or missed days.

Why did she quit? Her team was threatened with the closure of her department on an ongoing basis for the last year causing much stress, but that was not the real reason. Carol was getting heart paputations and was having trouble sleeping because of the stress. I told her to quit as her health was more important. Then one day the supervisor scolded her for something she didn't do, it was another employee named Carolyn. She made a jackass out of her in front of the rest of her team. The same supervisor had an altercation with another employee and it was a physical one, nothing happened to the supervisor. She is a nasty witch.

Now for the rant. I just looked at some paperwork for Cobra insurance. It will cost us 840 dollars a month for coverage, HUH? 840 a month and unemployed?

The system is broke I think. Any body else have any experience with Cobra?

Not with Cobra but until recently when I would get laid off in the winter, I work construction, I would have to pay roughly $800 a month to keep my insurance through the Teamsters. It was super hard to keep up for the 3 months a year I was laid off.

Cobra is very expensive Ron because they cann't do anything to the policy no writers. All job provided insurance is that way. Have you tried looking else where for your insurance because personal health insurance is cheaper because you can say I want this coverage and not thats coverage. The bussiness supplied ins. company can't do that. Our insurance was going to be over 1400.00 a month thru the company but we ended up with private policy and was around 500.00 a month.

Ron Move up here.

I had a heart operation and It cost me $10.00 for the taxi ride to the hospital. I took the bus home for $1.00
so $11.00
My broken arm cost $27.00 because I elected to get the lightweight water proof snap on snap off fiberglass cast instead of the regular plaster one.

Cobra "SUCKS"!!!!!! Ron, go for the private insurance, it's much more affordable.... Sorry about your situation....

I'm not one of those that believes in suing for any little reason. But taking your story at face value, I'd talk to a lawyer, and quickly.

Last time I was between jobs, cobra was a killer. Blue cross was affordable, although the coverage wasn't as good as the cobra policy I was under.

Good luck.

Sprint has a huge HR department - she might want to find the HQ and talk to them about the situation - maybe they can help her find another solution - cant hurt to ask - good luck with this - we are all here for ya

I'll sty out of the legal stuff ( did you say hostile work environment)

As for the insurance you've heard it above. Around here I tell my patients to join a group that has insurance. An example would be the farm association; It cost them $50.00 to join and they are happy to have the extra money, but then you are eligible for there group insurance.

Also consider a high deductible insurance and a health savings account.

For my family a $500 deductable and 80/20 coverage with no maximum out of pocket was more than $1200/month.

I have a $5000 deductible with 100% coverage after that for about $650/month. Still expensive, but I know my maximum cost per year this way.

Then look for a Health Savings Account. You put the money in up to $5,500 (I think) per year and you get a tax deduction for it. Gains interest or however you invest it tax free. Keep ALL medically related receipts, and you can draw this back out for many things. Dentist, eye, prescriptions, etc. A note from your doctor gets vitamins, exercise bike etc covered.

Good luck!

I understand too what your going through, I haven't had insurance for years. My last job cancelled it, no way I could afford it myself, and now I'm self employed. I never heard of Cobra, blue cross is the big one in our area. Sounds like their cheaper, but man are they a pain in the butt to deal with. I think the employees get a bonus for stamping 'deny' on all claims!
