I know it's a bit early for this discussion, I'm not going to wait till the last minute to ask. I've been informed by my lovely sister in law that I/hubby are hosting a family get together for Thanksgiving. I'm so lucky to live between her (Kentucky) and her kids (Colorado). And also while drinking some amber colored stuff...my hubby invited family from Canada. Now, mind you...I don't mind and I love my family. With all that being said, my wonderful spouse is wanting to smoke a ham and turkey. I get the cure stuff...which we will do with the ham and brine turkey. My question is for all you experts out there is can I/we do ham and turkey at the same time. I'm thinking no. Do ham day before and reheat while turkey is smoking. Not sure on size of either yet. Any suggestions?

Go for it you can smoke them at the same time just use you meat thermometers and pull ham when its done the low and slow turkey at 225 will take about 12 -14 hours. Check Bearcarvers ways of doing double smoked ham.

And welcome to the forum.

Agreed, if you have the room in your smoker then you should be able to do them both at the same time. Logistics of having them done at the same time is what you will need to work on. My wife is not a fan of smoked poultry so no turkey gets to grace my smoker. We do the traditional oven route. I have smoked a ham way back when and it was very tasty. I am certain that your families will enjoy the meal immensely.

Absolutely you can smoke both at the same time. The timing will be your only issue.
And that will depend on the size of the ham & the turkey.

I second the suggestion for twice smoke ham, that will make everything a lot less complicated and let you focus your main attention on the turkey. Since all you are really doing with the twice smoked ham is reheating and adding some great flavor, its much easier to time it.
