My wife, God bless 'er... She loves me, she supports me in everything I put my hand to and helps me in any way she can, but she's not a 'smoke head'.

Yesterday, I ran a long cold smoke on about 3 lbs. of sliced yellow onions. I brought 'em in the house and put 'em in the dehydrator with the end goal of making some homemade smoked onion powder.

Got up this mornin' and Janet says "The whole house smells like Hickory smoked onions. Imagine that."

Something similar, if you use a baking pan in the smoker, that can work fine but the next time you heat it in the oven it will "bloom" smoke aroma and the kitchen will smell exactly like there's a wood fire going.

I did this with a Lodge casserole which I call The Lifeboat. I couldn't find an exact match on an image search but here's my piece with my sister flipping an herbed pork roast in it.

I love the way iron cookware can go straight on the fire. This board rings with the clang of dutch oven lids.

Forgive me for being dense... Are you suggesting I put them in the oven instead of the dehydrator after smoking them?

Oh  it happens, she will get used to it.

We usually keep the house open in the winter & it seems like it always smells like smoke in here.

Here is one better !!     Those who know me, know I am smoking or curing something all the time.

One day my Wife was making something and went to the fridge for some cheese as she started to grate

she said " Is this Smoked ??,"  I said Yeah !!  She then said The house smells like smoke about half the time,

You smell like smoke most of the time and most everything in the fridge and freezer is smoked !!!

I said " Yeah I know ain't it great"

Gary

I'm sittin' here laughin' out loud, thinkin' "Dern, Gary, don't you know when to shut up?"

Oh she's use to it "Pretty Much"  I have to back off every so often so I don't get Banned again.

I'm pretty lucky that way too, Gary.  The day I slightly "over dried" the hickory pellets in the microwave and filled the house with smoke, Miss Linda just grinned and said it made a "nice air freshener".
