Sometimes you have to just use the available parts in your area!

I'm getting a 350 pound pig next week and will need more room in my curing chamber so I decided to move the humidifier outside of the fridge. I thought of using a hose but that was more expensive for the parts and I would have had to dive to many different places to find the fittings. But for $3.00 I bought a drain trap and was able to move the humidifier outside of the fridge. As it turns out the humidity just rolls into the fridge. Note: I used a piece of plastic to seal the right side of the drain trap.

Rick, afternoon....   I'm dumber than a rock....  sooooooo, I need you to explain how that trap work and where the humidity goes....   It's beyond my imagination I tell ya.

On the bottom of the drain trap is a cleanout. It unscrewed and come off leaving about a 2" opening on the bottom. That opening slipped over the top (nose) of my humidifier real nice so the tip of the humidifier points up and into the left side of the trap.

The right side of the trap has a screw fitting. I took off the screw fitting and covered the opening with a thick plastic bag. Then I screwed the cap back on sealing the right side of the trap so no humidity can go out that way. The right side of the trap is now plugged and closed off.

I taped the two joints with electrical tape to seal them and so I can remove the parts for cleaning. I was going to silicone them but this would not allow me to clean very well.

The humidifier is plugged into the controller (in photo).  So when needed the humidity goes up the drain tube on the left side and rolls really nice into the fridge out the opening in the fridge.  

I put a smiley face on the clear plastic to show it better.
