Hi Brian, Welcome to SMF! Glad to have you with us.

I don't have a BGE, but I think you can do just about anything you want on one of them. However if your looking for a smoker I think a better choice would be a Weber Smoky Mountain. I believe the BGE is more for grilling than it is for smoking. I'm sure someone who owns one will be along soon to give you better answers.

I dont use my BGE for smoking..many do tho.

I use my WSM..

Welcome..

This site has tons of info.

I suggest you spend some time reading all the different forums and the WIKIs.

Ask questions and use the handy dandy search tool for specific interests!!

Take the awesome free E-Course!!!

Brian,

Welcome, please let us look over your shoulder by sending photos.  We love the photos.  Enjoy, and take advantage of all the resources available.

Try typing BGE in the search area at the top of the page, and you will see MANY threads to help you.  I don't have one, but many others think they are wonderful, and some use them in competitons.

GOOD LUCK!

Welcome to SMF glad you can join us.  We are big on Pics and love to help everyone out.  Remember the only question that is dumb is one not asked.  You will not find a friendlier place to talk Que on the web.

You are going to fit in just fine.

I think the eggs are awesome wish I could afford one.

Welcome aboard, Brian.

The only complaint I have ever heard about the BGE is its weight.  It seems that people who have them love them.

Good luck and good smoking.

Welcome to SMF Brian

First off welcome to SMF there Brian. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.

Welcome To Your New Addiction

Welcome to the SMF Family...If you are looking for an all around cooker/smoker BGE's are nice...Depends on how much volume you need to smoke. In that price range you can get a pretty big dedicated smoker like one of the Lang's...JJ

Hello Brian and welcome from Fallbrook - I have seen a lot of great food come out of a BGE but most of what I have seen is not smoked.  The one knock on the BGE is that it is ceramic and lots of folks have had cracks develop.

Good luck with your decision and let us know what you end up with

Thanks for the info All!

I was considering the WSM at one point until I saw the BGE

It looks like I'm going to get the BGE for free.  A supply house I buy a lot of my equipment from has this bonus buck program, and I need to use it up.  It looks like I can get the BGE  I dont think I could ever take that money out of my wallet to buy one but if its free why not.

Thanks again for all your help guys!

Brian

 Brian, and welcome to SMF.

Glad to have you with us.

Personally I don't know anything about the BGE. Or the WSM for that matter.

So I will just shut up and go away for now. lol

Happy Smokin'

Mike

Welcome brotha! BGE are excellent you can do a heck of a lot with them. They were on my wish list as my next smoker for years. I almost bought one a few months back too. Then I decided to go a different route that I wanted to take and I became a stick burner.

There was a place in La Verne that had good prices on the BGE's, atleast compared to BBQ Galore. They were initially more expensive but the accessories were cheaper and when I asked, they agreed to match the cooker price with BBQ Galore and they had them in stock. I forgot the name of the store. I believe I found them listed as a dealer on BGE website.

I work in Anaheim, off the 57 & 91 right there. It truly is a small world, more and more SoCal residents joining up.
