My wife wants to make smoky apple bbq. sauce from some of the apples from our trees, never tried it before but the recipe she found calls for liquid smoke, she asked why we can't just smoke the apples instead to get the smoky flavor which I'm all for. My question is how long do you think I would need to smoke them, cold smoke or with a little heat? Thanks Jim

I've smoked apples before. Peeled and wedged. For me I smoked them for the purpose of cooking them for stuffing that was already done. The wedges were in smoke for about an hour and then a quick poke with a toothpick to test for doneness.

Ok thanks, so they take on smoke pretty quick.
