Do you guys think this will work for smoke stack: STEEL ROUND PIPE 6-5/8" o.d. x 9-ga PIPE BALLARDS.I have been pricing out steel pipe and it is very expensive. I also don't want to waste money on something that is not thick enough and/or won't work well.
I would really appreciate your opinion.

Good morning smaloof.
I have 6-5/8" OD stainless pipe for mine with 1/8" wall. Your 9 ga is about .150 wall. Mine works really well. I would think this would work just fine no problems. Of course guys with multiple builds might be able to tell you advantages of it being thicker?

I use #14 sheet metal and roll it.   Save your $ and buy some digital thermometers with the difference.

Heat loss on a smoke stack is minimal compared to the rest of the smoker
