I have these two pork loins that were given to me last summer, just not sure exactly when. They seem to be well wrapped, no visible freezer burn but I have no idea how old they really are. I want to make Canadian bacon out of them. Any thoughts?

Well, unfortunately, once thawed it just didn’t pass the smell test. My better half said it smelled “old”, and I trust her sniffer better than mine. Not much I hate more than throwing out wasted food, but into the trash it went.

Well, I guess it could have. I don’t have dogs but my folks do. I was boning them out (they weren’t pork loins as it turns out they were chops) when the decision was made. We were getting ready for work and taking out the trash. I guess I should’ve thought that through some more....

To be fair, according to the AKC (American kennel club), it’s not recommended for dogs to eat raw, or cooked pork.

Shelf life on frozen meat/pork if it is fatty 6 months. If vacuum pack could last longer. Be careful about giving pork to dogs some breed such as spaniels have a food intolerence for pork. My dog was a mix Mother was a cock a poo and she got mixed up with a basset hound ( great dog) used to get extremely sick if she for any pork products and required a trip to the vet.
