Been a while since I made a TT but I normally did the trusty SPGO. Normally I never really measured I just put down everything by dusting and eyeball the Kosher Salt, fresh cracked black pepper then the onion and garlic powder dusting. Never had any complaints.

The Jockos mix is from a famous place in Nipomo, CA. I have been there many times before. When I was working I had to go up there once a month. They serve true Santa Maria BBQ. That is why I eventually bought my own Santa Maria pit BBQ. They have been around since 1962 serving up mostly grass fed rib eyes that they call the Spencer.

Just downloading these pics makes me hungry for it. It is a 150 mile drive to get there so I don't do it anymore. Jim_C Jim_C it is about a 250 mile drive south for you. I bet these pics will want you to make that drive. :emoji_wink:

The wife and I used to go up and down the 101 on a regular basis. We would stay in Buellton. We went to Santa Maria on day trips while in the area. Our go-to for the area is the Hitching Post. We were always curious about Nipomo and keep telling ourselves we're going to check it out someday.

Kinder's has a killer S.M. rub.
Costco had it, wish I would've bought more.
Here it is on Amazon, for a few bucks more, I'm ordering two more right now.
It's great on beef, chicken and veggies.

I ordered some last night. I bought the 12oz 2 pack.

Of course we have Kinder's BBQ all over the place out here, but it's cheaper to buy it on Amazon then to drive to Kinder's, and to be honest their BBQ is OK, but not as good as a lot of us on SMF can do at home.

Yup, it's what ever one likes that's most important. Believe the somewhat standard ration is 2 parts garlic to 1 part salt. Not sure about the pepper, but like you, I roll with the eyeballs on the pepper side.

While it has been quite some time since I cooked a TriTip, after seeing this discussion of seasonings, I was reminded of my favorite, decidedly non BBQ, SPG and Oregano seasoning. Think I'll try using some Cavender's Greek Seasoning whenever I do my next TriTip. While not a normal BBQ seasoning it works remarkably well on pork butts when smoking for pulled pork. It was all an old boss of mine ever used when cooking BBQ in his offset.

Cavender’s Greek is always on hand here. It’s a good seasoning. Love it on lamb, but have also made sausage with it. Good stuff.

I live in the East Bay, I have at least five Kinders with in a 10 to 15 minute drive.
I've stated this here before, in high school I dated the original owner John Kinders granddaughter. He was a hardworking, tough old dude.
Back then there were only two shops that I knew of, the original in San Pablo and the one in Concord off of Arnold Dr, across the street from the refineries.
He was smart to put the shop on Arnold, back then it was always packed with construction workers at lunchtime, this was before all the security hoops they make you jump through to get into the refineries these days. I used to get free meals, tee shirts and hats that had their old slogan on the back of them.

None of the Kinders stores around here carry it, I've checked.
Kinders, food isn't nearly as good as it was back in the 1980s.
Although their marinaded T.T. and Ball tips are still excellent.
Back in the day you'd get a giant T.T. or B.T. sandwich, chips and a soda for $9.00 it was the best deal in town, it's probably twice that price now, if not more.

Jim, can you link the Santa Maria twin 12 oz pack, I can't find it, the only twin pack I see is the Blend.
I didn't order any the other night, I fell to sleep.
Thanks.
Dan.

The Blend is what I ordered. Sorry if I confused folks.

Yesterday did not seem to be a good day for me to leave comments on threads. This one included.

Here's the Amazon link for The Blend:
I also saw The Blend and a few other Kinder's rubs at Sam's yesterday for $4.98 and up.

The Blend is a mixture of the three ingredients I almost always revert to when it comes to grilling steak or pork but instead of relying on someone else's ratios, I apply salt pepper and garlic individually.

No Problem, Jim, The Blend is always on my countertop
"I use that $h!t on everything". :emoji_laughing:
The Kinder's shops do carry The Blend, but it's cheaper at Costco & Sam's.
Which Sam's do you shop at, Jim, Concord?
If so, I live about 10 minutes from there, we should meet up for lunch one of these days.

Dan.

We shop the Sam's in Concord. Lunch sounds good. I'll start a conversation.

I received it today. Popped it open and gave it a smell. WOW! This is going to get used often.
